PD NEWS 09.05.26 - U.S. Troops Leaving Germany? Poland Could Be the New NATO Hub追加:
Not everyone can count on such words, such declarations, and such allied support [music] as Poland, which Donald Trump is once again acknowledging. The American leader who is withdrawing at least several thousand troops from Germany in response to Berlin's arrogance is considering sending at least some of those forces to our country.
Poland felt like that.
We have a great relationship with Poland. I have a great relationship with the president. Do you remember I endorsed them?
And he won. And he came from way behind and he won. He's a great fighter, he's a great guy.
This wouldn't be possible without the excellent relationship between the two leaders. Karol Nawrocki and Donald Trump are united by fundamental values, family, the economy, and security. The relationship about President The relationship between the two presidents is extremely important. They have great trust in each other. This is extremely important in relations between nations. History has repeatedly shown that mutual affection between the two politicians is simply something that results in positive relations for the countries, whether [music] military or economic. Already during the Polish president's visit to the White House, talks were underway about increasing the American contingent on our eastern flank of NATO. [music] Now, a perfect opportunity has arisen for this.
We should definitely take advantage of this opportunity if it has presented itself to us in this way. This is also largely thanks to President Nawrocki, who simply understands that a close alliance with the United States and good relations with them are in Poland's strategic interest.
All the more so because the Americans are already here with state-of-the-art equipment and thanks to their presence, the alliance's eastern flank is today one of the most protected regions in Europe.
The Polish authorities may seek to ensure that this American presence is actually increased. Currently, about 10,000 American soldiers are stationed in Poland, which it is worth emphasizing in most cases is not a permanent presence, but a rotational one, meaning that these are soldiers from units that are normally stationed in the United States, for example, [music] and who after about a 6-month stay in Poland are replaced by new forces provided by the United States.
Poland's Minister of Defense, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, responded to Donald Trump's remarks about a possible redeployment of troops to Poland.
The Polish-American alliance is the foundation of our security. Poland is ready to accept additional American troops to strengthen NATO's eastern flank and provide even better protection for Europe. He was answered by the former head of the Polish National Security Bureau, historian Professor Sławomir Dębski.
Therefore, Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz, I ask you to submit a special declaration resolution on this matter and an address to the US President at the government meeting no later than Tuesday. Activate the Department of Military Foreign Affairs and the military attaché in Washington today. Coordinate this matter with President Nawrocki. Here, the personal relationship between our head of state and the US President [music] and the NATO Secretary General is important and the National Security Bureau. Notify NATO headquarters of our readiness and a willingness through our military representatives and the ambassador, the permanent representative to NATO, and prepare a political and military [music] agenda regarding the redeployment of US troops from Germany to Poland. Finally, write about this on X.
Of course, the infrastructure needs to be developed. The deployment of troops could not happen overnight, but President Trump's declaration is the first step on this path, which is crucial for our security.
There will certainly be a larger redeployment of troops to the eastern flank, that is, to Poland and other NATO countries surrounding us, to our eastern neighbors, but these are not quick moves. However, this requires political will, >> [music] >> which President Nowrotsky does not lack.
But Donald Tusk, above all, does not want to upset Berlin, as evidenced by his remarks about the withdrawing American troops, who might end up in Poland.
I don't think we as a country should be playing favorites. [music] I don't know if you know what I mean. I will not allow Poland to be used in any way to undermine solidarity or cooperation at the European level. [music] On the one hand, he tells people, "Listen, war is coming in a few months, not in a few years, but in a few months." Then he says, "We won't take American soldiers." And later he announces, "Now we're safe because we'll have some military capability by 2030."
Because pushing the Americans out of Europe is indeed in the interest of Germany, which wants to dominate the continent, but it lowers [music] our level of security.
We are dealing with two different policies, President Nowrotsky's realistic policy and Prime Minister Tusk's policy based on the illusions of the European Union.
And such gestures by Donald Tusk toward the American president and his repeated insults toward him mean that Poland may squander a huge opportunity to become a leader in the region.
>> [music] >> Everything about Donald Tusk, who he really is and whose interests he represents, is captured in Tusk's famous speech to the CDU against the backdrop of the Gdansk crane, delivered in German. After all, why did he deliver it in German >> [music] >> and against the backdrop of that crane?
There is symbolism everywhere in his speech, everywhere. That's why he's going so crazy because he presented [music] himself to the German power elites as a Gdansk native with some ties to Germany.
Handing over our security to Germany, which is what Donald Tusk is striving for, is a path to ruin. Only the United States presence in the region, plus a strong Polish army, can guarantee stability.
The Canary Islands, the port of Granadilla in the southeastern part of Tenerife, the Dutch-flagged cruise ship MV Hondius, on which hantavirus infections have been detected, is expected to arrive here before dawn on Sunday. So far, eight cases have been reported, including three deaths. Final preparations are underway.
We must evacuate citizens from 23 countries, and it is a source of pride for our country and our government that international authorities in the World Health Organization have placed their trust in Spain to carry out this operation.
>> [music] >> Fearing for their own safety, port workers are protesting against the ship's arrival.
If the passengers on this cruise ship, through some simple carelessness, come into contact with the local population, the virus could spread, and we will likely be placed under quarantine.
Spanish authorities are reassuring the public that the ship's passengers and crew, even once ashore, will be completely isolated from the local population.
They will arrive in a completely isolated area. They will board isolated and guarded vehicles and reach a completely isolated section of the airport. They will board planes and fly away. At no point will there be any possibility of contact. Over 140 people from more than 20 countries are to be transported by another boat to the mainland, where they will undergo detailed tests to check for the presence of hantavirus in their bodies.
No luggage or remains of the deceased will be transported to the Canary Islands. They will remain on board, along with part of the crew. After the passengers disembark, the ship will continue its journey to the Netherlands, where it will undergo a full comprehensive disinfection in accordance with international protocols. Those disembarking will be allowed to take only a small carry-on bag containing essential items, such as documents, a cell phone, a charger, basic necessities, and personal belongings. If the travelers' tests do not detect hantavirus, they will be transported to the airport, from where they will return to their respective countries.
As for passengers from Spain, upon arrival at the airport, they will be transported to a hospital, where they will undergo preventive quarantine under the supervision of public health authorities. Among others, the United Kingdom and the United States are set to send planes to retrieve their citizens.
We're making preparations to receive the uh the 19 uh uh passengers, US citizens who will be repatriated.
We uh seem to have things under very good control. They know that virus very well. Been around a long time. Uh not easily transferable, unlike COVID. Uh but we'll see. We're We're studying it very We have very good people studying it very closely. Special flights have also been scheduled to France, Germany, Belgium, Ireland, and the Netherlands.
Through the European Civil Protection Mechanism, two aircraft will also be made available to transport citizens of other European Union countries. So far, three people have died as a result of infections on the cruise ship, a married couple from the Netherlands and a German citizen. Five other people who have already left the ship are also infected with the hantavirus. However, the World Health Organization assesses that the risk to the public from the outbreak is low, though it does not rule out further spread of the virus. This is not COVID.
I know, and we all know um that we have COVID fresh in our minds still.
Uh and that's the first connection everybody made, hence the international attention to these According to the World Health Organization, hantavirus can be transmitted through close and prolonged contact, particularly among household members, close partners, or healthcare workers. However, the virus is not easily transmitted from person to person. Let's not forget from from couples who were close who are close, from a flight attendant who handled the uh the sick woman who just shortly after died um and was feeling extremely unwell, we get negative test results. That should convince nearly everybody now that this is a dangerous virus, but only to the person who's really infected, uh and it's the risk to the general population remains absolutely low. Hantaviruses have been known to researchers for many years. They are usually spread through contact with contaminated rodent droppings. The first people to contract the hantavirus, known as the Andes virus, were a Dutch couple who had traveled through Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay before boarding the cruise ship MV Hondius. called the Andes virus. It's a hantavirus from South America.
And it's the one type of hantavirus that scientists suspect may be able to spread from person to person. The exact causes of hantavirus transmission to humans are still being investigated. Symptoms usually appear 1 to 8 weeks after infection, making it difficult to determine whether the cruise ship passengers contracted the virus before leaving Argentina.
The fire in the Chernobyl area is spreading very quickly and engulfing more and more land. The fire has already reached abandoned villages, and the situation is further exacerbated by strong winds and droughts. Firefighters are battling the blaze under extremely difficult conditions. The problem is not only the flames and thick smoke, but also minefields and damaged infrastructure, which hinders access to parts of the area affected by the fire.
The National Atomic Energy Agency reassures the public that there is currently no threat to Poland. However, radiation monitoring is being conducted around the clock as the situation remains dynamic. Experts are reassuring the public. This time, the fire broke out in one of the less radioactively contaminated areas. The fire in the Chernobyl exclusion zone is not the only problem Ukraine is currently facing.
According to the Ukrinform agency, approximately 2,400 hectares of forest are burning in the Chernihiv Oblast in border areas. Firefighting efforts there are exceptionally difficult due to ongoing military operations.
