Northeast Ohio weather forecast: Soaking rain on the wayAdded:
Overnight is really the heaviest rain.
We're going to scatter that out tomorrow morning and then tomorrow afternoon we have a chance for thunderstorms and then Sunday afternoon. Otherwise, I think we're going to have some dry weather in here. Let's take a look at how this forecast shakes out for everybody this evening. Actually with these light scattered showers that are around, I don't think it's anything that's going to slow you down. It may just kind of bring you down a little bit.
Temperatures are in the 50s with the light showers around. We'll see more showers overnight and those showers will pick up in intensity as well. So, the rain is here and the drying trend that I just mentioned is actually setting up for the weekend. So, we're opening up more and more dry time. Then after the weekend, into next week, back to milder temperatures and brighter skies. So, it's not a bad forecast at all. We do have the scattered showers, light drizzly areas and real sprinkly kind of stuff hanging out around the lakeshore areas right now. The more steady rain is off to the south and that will spread northward as we head through the rest of the evening. I mentioned the pipeline of rain that we are talking about. This whole storm system here, this swirl, is going to be moving northward tonight and that will bring a big swath of heavy rain over northern Ohio in the early morning hours. Then that area of low pressure will rotate out. We'll get a little window when we get into some drier time and then by Sunday we'll have this starting to push in as well. So, we kind of have two systems coming through and I think, as I mentioned, we're going to be able to get a little bit of dry weather in here. Tonight, it's rain. A lot of it. Widespread, at times heavy rain, maybe a few rumbles of thunder.
Temperatures in the 50s. Tomorrow early showers will give way to some dry time and then we're picking up the scattered rain and rumble chances in the afternoon with temperatures in the 60s. If you're lucky enough to get to go on the lake, it does look like it's going to be a little choppy tomorrow with the east wind turning a little more southeasterly, two to four footers. For Sunday, it's an offshore wind at 10 to 15 with one to three footers. Just watch for those afternoon thunderstorms. And then Monday, things start to turn. We're going to have calm wind in the morning and then the winds become more northerly. So, you will have a bit of a chop on the water for Memorial Day, but otherwise it looks like the big waves should be out of here. And the National Weather Service hour-by-hour forecast has some brighter news, too. So, here's the rain that spreads across the area as we head through the evening. By 9:00 p.m. that steady rain is sneaking northward up toward the turnpike and continuing to slowly move northward as we head through the rest of the evening.
You can see kind of holding out dry hope for the Lake County, Ashtabula County this evening and then overnight we just get soaked. A swath of rain coming through. You can see the yellows, the oranges, even the reds. This is our period when we may have rumbles of thunder that's accompanying heavy downpours coming. It could be enough rain that like you wake up kind of a thing like, "Wow, it is really raining out there." At this time it's also going to be gusty. So, wind-driven rain is a thing. If you like the mild temperatures and you want to sleep with the windows cracked open, it's going to be east wind tonight. So, open the west windows on your house. Just a little tip there, pro tip. But then by tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. that heavy rain begins to move out. This is the opening that we're starting to see now in the mid to late morning hours and by midday, I think we're going to break out into some nice dry time for much of northern Ohio. Now, keep in mind we're going to have a soaker tonight. So, that means the ground is just going to be mush. But at least, you know, you'll be able to get out and get some things done. In the afternoon though, we're going to retool things. This is now cold front that's coming through. We're probably going to see some thunderstorms coming with this and you can see that's right in the heart of our evening plans. That round of rain and thunder will move out late evening and then we're going to dry things out. Could have a little fog around for Sunday morning. Temperatures in the low 60s. Sunday late morning into midday we get some sunshine. That's going to help to pop temperatures into the 70s and now we have that second low pressure system in the northern plains that will swing in bringing us a chance for thunderstorms Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening and then that moves out.
And now we're off to the races. It's like finally that whole pipeline of moisture is cut off. We have a nice calm day expected here on the land. Remember that north wind on the lake keeps things a little choppy, but look at these temperatures for our Memorial Day. Not too shabby, right? It's not all bad news, which is definitely some good things for us. We're looking at 1 to 2 inches of rain over the weekend and I think the bulk of that falls tonight and then we'll see what we end up getting out of the rounds of thunderstorms that are coming in. Here's your Union Home Mortgage forecast 67 tomorrow here in the land. We may be a little bit warmer farther south. 74 for Sunday, 76 on Monday. Now again, that's in Cleveland.
We'll be warmer down for you folks in Canton and Millersburg and Dover and New Philadelphia. Near 80 for Tuesday, 70s Wednesday with our next front coming in, but that one is not going to bring nearly as much cold air and so we back it off into the 60s. Really comfortable conditions setting up right now for late next week and the next weekend. All right, so looking up there. All right, Betsy. Thank you.
