[00:00:00]Yo, what's up, guys? So, today in this video, I'm going to show you one of the best self-working tricks that I've ever come up with. And that's a bold statement, but it's it's probably true.

[00:00:14]This has to do with dice, which I'm obsessed with the dice tricks, and it sort of has that quality that the trick um what's that trick called by Paul Harris with the blue card? Uh what is it?

[00:00:30]Overkill. Overkill, yeah.

[00:00:32]It's an impossible prediction using some dice, and the reason why it's so impossible is because it's impossible to backtrack. Even if they try to guess a method, it'll cancel itself out, if that makes any sense. And so, I'm excited for you to see this trick because when I first discovered it, I was it blew my own mind.

[00:00:57]Let's get into it.

[00:00:58]All right, guys. So, what I will do first is demonstrate sort of what the trick looks like and how it's supposed to appear to your uh audience. And after I do that, I'll teach you exactly how it is done, okay? So, uh let's imagine this Let's Let's pretend I had somebody here, and I would be like this. I'd bring this box out and be like, "Look, I have this box here.

[00:01:19]And uh what do you think is inside?" I'd give it to them and I'd have have them shake it, too. I'd like, "Shake it up and uh try to guess what's inside that box." And they might say anything. It could be anything, right? But I'll give them a hint. I will take this thing out and I'll give it to them like this. And then, uh oh, a die. One die. That's correct. You were correct.

[00:01:38]>> [laughter] >> Oh, whatever, right? And then I'll say, "Look, uh why don't you roll the die to get a random number?" And then they could roll it a few times, just so they know uh that it's not loaded. It's a normal die, right? So, uh All right, this one counts. So, they roll the die, and we'll get a random number. In this case, it's a three. So, what we do here is we're going to count down in the deck a few cards and arrive at a random card.

[00:02:01]All right, so we'll count down three cards. That's 1 2 3. We get a jack. A jack is worth 11, so we'll count 11 cards from here. That's 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11. That's a five. We'll count down five more cards and we'll keep the final one a secret. All right, that's 1 2 3 4 and the five we'll put that right under that die right there. Now, think about this. If you had a rolled any other number, all these cards would have been different. We would arrive at a different card altogether. Uh but you decided on three. I have something else inside this box. I want to show you that right now.

[00:02:40]Inside this box, I actually have a card, a playing card. It's the three of hearts. What do you suppose that card is?

[00:02:48]And they turn it over and it is uh of course the three of hearts.

[00:02:52]Um but you'll notice I have some more dice here.

[00:02:56]If you take a look, that's a six. That's a six. That's 12.

[00:03:02]That's 12 13 14 15 16 17 18. Exactly 18 on this dice there.

[00:03:11]You could have had any amount of cards, rolled the die to any number after a shuffled deck. How many cards do you have here? Let's count them. That's 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17. Exactly 18 cards. You know, I'm not sure how that works myself.

[00:03:31]All right, so the things that you will need, you'll need some type of tin uh to put your dice in. And the dice that I have here is the non-gimmicked and verticle dice, which you can get on Vanishing Inc. for like I think it's it's like $3 $3 for a whole set. And that's pretty a pretty good deal for non-gimmicked high quality dice. And so I just stock up on these, but also I want to direct your attention to some actual force and gimmick dice. I think these are by Lar Bell Magic or Magic Maker, something like that. But this is these are non these Yeah, here it is. Um as for this, this has two twos on either side. So you'll never roll a five on this one, okay? So you can force number five by eliminating all numbers but five with these dice. And the cool thing about these gimmick dice is that they match the non-gimmick dice perfectly, okay? So you can mix and match these dice with these non-gimmick dice here.

So you can't beat it. Okay, so now also what you'll need is some type of tin. And the tin I have here is so perfect for this.

[00:05:06]Not only can it fit a deck of cards or, you know, most of a deck of cards perfectly in here. Yeah, a whole deck of cards in here. So a lot of things you can do with that already, right? Or or you can be like a card clip or a card holder instead of your your card box. And it provides you with some amazing tricks. Like if you know the trick of Box of Doom by John Bannon, perfect thing for that.

[00:05:29]Um they they just fit them so perfectly.

[00:05:31]But the coolest part about this specific tin, which I'll get into here in a minute about what it is, is that if you put it some dice in there, I'll just put one in there for now, and you shake it up, it's never going to change. All right, it's still on the three. It doesn't matter how hard you shake it, it doesn't matter if you really try to get it to move, it won't move at all once you are on the same number. You can even have the person do it if they want to as well, just uh you know, for the extra conviction, right? It doesn't matter how much you shake it, it's never going to move off the three or whatever number you set it to, right? So, the specific tin that this is is from cough drops and the brand is called Soothers. It's kind of sort of a bougie brand of cough drops that my son likes uh cuz he's bougie. Uh So, uh they come in all uh colors. Um I'll leave a link or a picture of what, you know, this looks like um here.

[00:06:30]So, you want to obviously have a number set uh to be forced in this tin. Um I went with 18 and I'll just tell you why it's 18 here in a minute. So, uh you could just use three dice, three sixes, but I feel like that's sort of I don't know, it seems kind of weird. Not only cuz it's six six six, but it's also like it seems like it I don't know, it seems not random enough to me. So, I decided to go with two sixes, a two, and a four for our 18 here. All right, so two sixes and a two and a four and then just another die in here randomly, but just so I know and I in the heat of the moment so I don't forget which one to take out to give to them, I'll just uh put this one at one so I know to give one die to them. Okay, so I close this up and this can just go in your pocket.

[00:07:19]I mean, you can feel safe that it'll be in your pocket when it's shaking around cuz they're not going to move, right?

[00:07:23]So, that'll just go in your pocket or or wherever and then just hang out there.

[00:07:28]The thing that inspired me uh to put the dice in here and try this out with different boxes and tins is I was I saw Max Maven do this where he has sort of this jewelry box uh with with a lid that came off and he would put the lid on partially so when he shook the dice in the box people could see each time that you do it the dice would change right so but if he closed the lid all the way and he shook it it would stay that number because the box was too shallow for the dice to move such as this right so he would you know read somebody's mind that way he would just remember the number after the shake or whatever and close the lid all the way and that would just be the force number right but this works perfectly for that for that as well.

[00:08:17]So the question is how do you get to the force card with the random die and the deck okay so this is actually a brilliant method which I saw Paul Wilson do on his master class lecture on vanishing ink like this so think about this.

[00:08:38]>> [laughter] >> If you know the trick the perfect stop trick by Ed Marlo he has a descending value run from king to ace so it's king queen jack 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 so and after that he just has a card so no matter where the spectator says stop in these run of descending cards let's say they stop at the seven you count 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 you always get to that force card right so this is kind of what's happening here but a something a little extra.

[00:09:12]So on top the deck you'll want to have of course your descending run in values the suits don't matter obviously in fact I encourage you to use different suits just so if they want to check cards at the end if they're not like all spades right that might look kind of weird it it looks kind of weird already but you might be able to get away with it okay so you basically what you want to have here is your descending order of values then any five any five card okay? Any five at all, then four random cards, so 1 2 3 4, and then your fourth card, which is in our case the three of hearts, all right? So, again, on top of deck, top from top down, descending order, king to ace, any five spot card, any four random cards, and then finally your fourth card, and this is exactly 19 cards, okay? So, take one away, guess what? You get 18, okay? So, now this goes on top of the deck, and you're ready to begin.

[00:10:08]Okay, so to perform this, what you want to do is put all the dice in the box, and remember that uh you want to set a one, so it's the one that you give them, right? So, it's just easier to remember, and then you take the cards out, and you You can give it a brief, you know, false overhand shuffle just to uh maintain the top stock. You don't have to do that, I just like to throw it in just so they can, you know, feel like the deck is a little bit random. Uh just as long as you keep the top stock intact with your uh shuffles and cutting, whatever you may do. All right, so now uh you start shaking this around, and you want to build mystery about what this thing might be, and then you start shaking it, and uh they'll remember the shaking, right? And then you even give it to them and say, "Shake it up, and if you had to guess, what would you guess is inside that box?" Okay? So, it >> [laughter] >> They can uh they can guess whatever, but you say like, "I'll give you a hint." And you don't want to reveal what's in here.

[00:11:04]Like, all the contents, obviously, so you just sort of do this, and you say like, "I'll give you this as a hint, as a clue." All right, so you just give them the one die, right? All right, so now you just put this off to the side as if it doesn't matter, as if you're done with this, right? Just kind of forget about it, and just don't put Don't act like it's important, because uh later on you'll come back to it, and it'll be the killer moment for the trick, right?

[00:11:25]So, now you say like, "We're going to get some uh We're We're going to generate a random card using some using this die and and some cards here. We're going to count down the deck to some cards here, whatever. And then you say, "Look, I rolled it a few times just so you can know for sure that it's not a trick die. It's not loaded, right?" So, they can roll it and it doesn't matter what number they roll, um you'll just count down the deck that many cards, all right? But don't do it face up, all right? Just always do it face down. So, you'll go 1 2 3 4 5, but that could have been anything. If you had to roll a different number, we would have a different card, all right? So, whatever value this is, then they'll count down nine cards because of the stack, you'll always get to the three of hearts, all right? Just as long as you do two of these face up cards, all right? So, that's like oh, nine, that means we count nine cards. That's 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9. Now we get a five, so now we count down five cards and I keep that one a secret, okay? So, we go 1 2 3 4 5. Look at that, a five and a five.

[00:12:26]Uh it's like it's meant to be, okay? So, now you say, "Look, you just recap what happened. The deck was shuffled, blah blah blah. You rolled a random card, got a random number. If that would have been any number at all, we'd have had a different amount of cards. We would have This would have been a different card, but you decided Fate decided today that this had to be the card. And you just remind them, "Remember, I asked you what was inside.

[00:12:49]You had no idea, but look, inside is one card, one playing card. It's the three of hearts." Ask them to turn it over. They can't believe it. They cannot believe it, ladies and gentlemen. It's always the three of hearts. And then you act like sort of the effect is over, like you've succeeded in this.

[00:13:06]Uh you take your bow, whatever. Say, "Hold on, wait a minute.

[00:13:09]This is interesting.

[00:13:11]Do you know why we didn't use the rest of the dice here? I left them in here for a reason.

[00:13:16]If we count the numbers on this on the die here, that's 12.

[00:13:20]That's 16.

[00:13:21]That's 18. 18 total, exactly.

[00:13:25]I wonder how many cards you got and they'll count them and that's 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 every time.
