[00:00:00]New figures from the city of Saskatoon show pothole reports have surged about 118% this year compared with the same period in 2025.

[00:00:09]More than 3,700 potholes have been flagged on the city's report-a-pothole map, an increase of roughly 2,000 from last year.

[00:00:18]The spike follows a winter with heavy snowfall and repeated freeze-thaw cycles that delayed the annual pothole blitz, leaving crews playing catch-up.

[00:00:27]City crews and contractors have been mobilized to accelerate repairs with a start date for intensified work set for May 25th.

[00:00:36]Since early May, nearly 400 tons of hot-mix asphalt have been used in the blitz, supplementing gravel or recycled asphalt used in colder weather.

[00:00:45]Priorities focus on driving lanes on high-traffic streets for safety, then curbs, parking lanes, and lower-priority streets.

[00:00:54]Emergency potholes are tagged high priority and usually addressed within 24 to 72 hours. Non-emergencies are scheduled.
