Republican candidates are strategically toning down their rhetoric on abortion rights before the midterms because they recognize it as a highly polarizing issue that could alienate moderate voters, even though abortion remains a significant political concern that has been relegated to a lower priority in some campaign strategies but has now returned to the top of the political importance ladder.

GOP Candidates HIDE Opinions on Abortion Pre-Midterms?Added:
Justina, this still has political implications though because abortion's back on the ballot, not like it ever went away. But Manny and I have talked about the fact that abortion's kind of been relegated to the lower rung of the importance ladder, I think in some people's campaign pillars. But now I feel like it just went right back up to the top. No, tremendously. It's really clear to me that the Trump administration is being put in a really awkward position because like Manny said, they have been this study was sort of a way for them to try to delay um publicly weighing in on telehealth until after the midterms. But what the fifth circuit just did was sort of force the issue. And so now they have to figure out, okay, are we going to piss off the anti-abortion movement um by appealing, by having the FDA appeal, or are we going to really make the majority of voters very mad by publicly weighing in um on abortion pills and and supporting this really I think they know how unpopular this is. There's a reason that Donald Trump has really stayed as far away from this as possible.
They know that it's that it's a losing issue. I'm curious to see how it plays out. We haven't heard from them yet, but it is absolutely tremendous issue in the midterms in the election. I get so upset when people say that it's not. There's a reason that Republicans are trying to make themselves sound more moderate.
There's a reason that Republicans are staying away from it or again trying to make themselves sound almost pro-choice.
They know it's a really big issue to voters. If they know that, we should know it, too.
