KGW Forecast: 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 12, 2026Added:
of the weather now. Gosh, I went outside and it was warm out. A little sticky, right?
>> I thought it was if I actually did Oregon today. I don't know if it was sticky FOR ME. IT WAS A LITTLE HUMID THOUGH. Just a little bit.
>> Little bit more than yesterday. Yes. All right, let's take you out to the Oregon coast. Here is Seaside for you. It's a cloudy one and boy, it's cooled off a lot. Yesterday was a clear blue sky.
Today is a solid gray overcast and 62 degrees there. And yeah, the humidity is up at the coast of course. We made 84 today in Portland, which is warm. That's above average by a lot by about 15 degrees. It was 82 in Hillsbor, 83 in Scapoo, 78 in McMinnville. Notice the cooler temperatures farther south. We had a better intrusion. Well, we had an intrusion of cooler marine air into the central valley here. It didn't quite make it to Portland yet, but it will overnight tonight. Medford was 87, 90 in Burns, 91 in Lrand this afternoon. And there's Timberline for you looking south. And we'll be keeping an eye on this camera all night long. See if we get any development of thunderstorms there, which will happen after dark. So the camera by then won't be that useful, but still fun to watch. 65 degrees up at 6,000 ft. Now on Doppler radar, you see the rain off the coast. It's not a very big band, but it's just the beginning of the rain that will be with us tomorrow morning. There are some thunderstorms forming over in southeast Oregon here, parts of Harney County, moving up towards Unity and east of John Day. Uh but we had a couple lightning strikes, that was it, and now it's just devolved into some scattered showers over the mountain ranges there. So keep an eye on that. So here's the flow. It's out of the south, which brings us the warm air and the cloud cover, too, from offshore.
So that's what we're dealing with as this upper level storm system rolls into the coast as forecast. It's centered right out here. So, this is where the coldest air loft is, and you need that to get the thunderstorms really cranked up, which is why we're not getting anything during the warmest part of the day, which is the typical setup. It's rather atypical for us to get what we call nocturnal thunderstorm, storms at night, west of the Cascades, but this is one of those nights when that may very well happen. You see a couple speckles of rain here at 11, 11:00 p.m. rather.
Those could be thunderstorms there, but again, really isolated, few and far between. But this will be a steady band of rain in the early morning hours about 5, 6, 7 a.m. Then that moves through quickly. We go to showers with sunbreak.
So, you know, it's going to be a quick hit of rain, which is why the amounts don't add up to very much. And then towards Friday and Saturday, few more speckles of rain coming our way. I think our best chance actually, unfortunately, will be on Saturday, especially during the morning hours or the middle part of the day. Here's the rainfall forecast again for you. Not super impressive.
Tenth of an inch through Saturday morning. We should pick up a little more than that, but the coast half an inch and up in the Cascades nearly half an inch. And a good part of that is going to be coming our way during the day tomorrow, too. There is the thunderstorm threat here covering much of Washington, but only this part of Oregon here for the overnight hours tonight. But again, if we get storms and the odds of anyone spot in the Wamtt Valley or the Portland area, 20 25%, not super great, but something that we need to pay attention to for sure. Okay, here's downtown Portland right now. Humidity is 31%.
That may be sticky to some due point at 50° uh which is a little elevated from yesterday, but not super humid.
Certainly not by East Coast standards, right? But by Oregon standards, yes, it's up a bit. 84 degrees freezing level at 11,400 ft. Cascades. Boy, what a change. After overnight thunderstorms, it gets windy tomorrow with rain and snow showers. That's right, rain and snow showers as the snow level drops to 5,000 ft tomorrow night. And look at the winds. They'll be gusting upwards of 40 45 miles an hour. So, it's going to be a different day. Remember, 65 at Timberline today for the Portland area and the valleys. Isolated thunderstorms overnight and then rain turns to showers tomorrow with a high of about 65. We go 69 on Thursday. Friday, cooler.
Saturday, we don't even see 60. We'll top out at 59 with showers during the day. And then Sunday, we begin a warmup.
And by the middle of next week, hey, we're back in the 70s. So, just a brief foray into cooler and occasionally wet weather.
>> I mean, having lived in Hong Kong with 88 degrees and 88% humidity. This was probably just that 80° wakeup call with the clouds that was like, "Oh, this feels different." If they had today in Hong Kong, they'd be going, "Oh, it's so dry.
>> It's so nice."
>> Exactly.
>> Okay. Thank you.
