🚨 BREAKING: Silence After Brazen Attack On Comrade Colleen? JLP, PNP, On Mandatory Sentencing

[00:00:10]>> I want to talk to you today about an incident that took place at the Papin market involving a woman by the name of Colleen Bernard. So over the last many months, we have seen a sustained protest against the police in Jamaica and how they're policing. And this mainly comes from the opposition and people who support them. They're of the view that the police in Jamaica are analying too many people and the debate goes on and on. I remember was before the election there was a debate in the Senate regarding the time for capital punishment and that debate took place between Senator Donna Scott Mutley of the PNP and the justice minister Delroy Chuck. The government was saying that a 50-year mandatory sentence would be appropriate for capital punishment.

[00:01:12]Meanwhile, the PNP said, "No, that was too much time." And Donna Scott Mley debated that very strongly, and that's when I formed the opinion that the PNP is soft on crime. And considering how many Jamaicans had been unal alive over the many decades while we struggled to bring down crime. Now, this lady by the name of Colleen who ran the Papin market, I believe she was affiliated with the PNP somehow. She was either an activist or just a comrade. I'm not sure about that, but I see PNP pouring out a lot of condolences for her. And I'm saying with everything that we've seen from the PNP leading up to this point, how is it that they feel so much remorse now? And what punishment they would want for the man who went into the Papene markets and analyed Colleen so viciously. The crime scene at the market was gruesome. a woman, a mother in broad daylight.

[00:02:25]The police officers who were at the scene, they pursued the man. They gave chase and he is currently injured and under police guard at the hospital. So, the police was quick. According to the news, a shootout ensued in pursuit of the man. Okay. So I would like for the PNP to tell the country where do they really stand on crime because everything that I have seen so far is a PNP that is sympathetic toward people who commit these gruesome acts against women. They say that they love women, but what what punishment would they recommend at this time for something so gruesome? I was actually a little disgusted when I saw how they were posting and, you know, expressing condolences to this woman when I saw the debate between the PNP and the government and the PNP saying that 50 years was too long. Nobody should be in prison for 50 years. That's what they said. And that did not matter the crime that they commit. I couldn't believe what I saw. As we can see, the Jamaican police, they still have a very tough challenge on their hands. Yes, crime has gone down in our country. But as we can see, this incident is a perfect example that the police must still be vigilant and continue to do their job because this guy who analived Colleen in broad daylight in front man and God, they did not hesitate to engage the police in a shootout. Okay. So, this kind of protest that we have seen leading up to the incident that took place in St. James between the cops and this woman who drove off the vehicle with the police standing in front of it.

[00:04:32]It has been an attitude of police brutality nationally. That's what these people have been trying to drum up against the Jamaica police force. Now, to be clear, if you're on this channel for the first time, I do not support extrajudicial unaliving of the Jamaican citizens. I do not condone bad police conduct. I do believe that if you're in a country where people feel like police are using excessive force or you know they're feeling skeptical about the conduct of the police, certain protocols should be reviewed. I strongly believe in that. But it bothers me that, you know, a certain set of people in the country are trying to paint the Jamaica police force as a bad thing. as if they're not doing a good job. The police have done a good job bringing down homicides, but they still have to behave like we are living in a high crime country because we're not we're not totally out of the woodwork yet. We still have a lot of work to do. Yes, Jamaica has managed to cut down the average annual homicide about 50%. We normally would see an average of about 1,400.

[00:06:03]Last year we closed out at about 670.

[00:06:07]So that's good. But still, there are still so many firearms on the streets.

[00:06:13]There are still people who won't hesitate to use them in broad daylight against women and against the police. So we must continue to support the Jamaica Constabularary Force. And to our police commissioner, maybe it is time to start reviewing some of your protocols and policies when it comes on to police operations and that kind of thing. Now where the opposition is concerned, anything that the government brings forth to lower the crime in our country, I don't expect to see the opposition go against it, talk against it because we're not used to this. We no matter what side the people are on, we we as Jamaican people can all agree that we have we've had a problem with crime and we need to fix it. and previous leaders of the opposition in Jamaica have joined the government and agreed with policies that the government brought forward to help decrease crime.

[00:07:19]I've seen Peter Phillips join the government on states of emergencies and whatever they felt was right at the time because Peter Phillips understood that we had a serious problem with crime in the country. It is only Peter Bunting who could not do anything to bring down the crime when he was national security minister and Mark Golding who I have seen come around here as opposition fighting against the government talking down on the government undermining the police the entire police force the national security minister the prime minister we've never seen this kind of thing and that's why I have been telling the Jamaican people that these guys know who are leading the PNP, they are not about the good of our country nor our people. The only thing that they're about is to make sure that they're always fighting against the government.

[00:08:17]That is their style of politics. This is a new style of politics that we have never seen in Jamaica before and we should not support it. Okay? We should call it out and we should only support and promote what we see going on that is good for our country and people and those who come to sabotage us, those who come to undermine us, those who come to keep our country in a negative light or to delay progress in our country. We must always shed light on them. Rest in peace to Colleen and my condolences to her family. I hope that someday Jamaica can go back to the way that it used to be when it was off limits for a woman to be unal alived so viciously. I miss those days and those days are long gone.

[00:09:12]But I hope that one day we can go back to where women are respected again and you know people just don't do these things. I mean, it's horrible seeing that, you know.
