[00:00:04][music] Scientists only recently figured out why, and the answer is stranger than they expected. The Indian [music] Ocean geoid low is the largest gravity anomaly on Earth.

[00:00:17]It's a region where the ocean [music] surface sits roughly 300 ft lower than it should because the gravitational pull [music] beneath it is weaker than anywhere else on the planet. For decades, no one could explain what was causing it. In 2023, researchers finally proposed an explanation. [music] Beneath the anomaly, deep in the Earth's mantle, there are remnants of an ancient ocean floor.

[00:00:43]A tectonic [music] plate from a sea that vanished 30 million years ago. As it sank into the mantle, it disrupted the flow of hot material beneath the [music] crust, creating a low-density void, a ghost of a dead ocean still pulling the Earth out of shape.
