End of Autumn Update - Where's the Cold Weather?Added:
Hello everyone. Welcome to my food forest here in Sydney, Australia.
Uh it's the end of autumn, but it's still feeling very warm for whatever reason.
Um and um yeah, things are growing and you know, even some things are putting on new growth, which is quite unexpected.
So, I'll just give an update of what's going on.
I've just planted this um fig tree uh in the ground.
You can see pomegranates are losing their leaves, getting yellow.
That is a sign of autumn, but there are other things going on. Another fig just planted.
You can see I've given this guy a very hard prune. This is This was a big uh pomegranate, but it is pushing on new growth, which is pretty strange.
And then I've up-potted some of the plants. So, these are uh seedlings of um uh white sapote and uh a honey gold mango and a mamey sapote, which obviously doesn't like the cold weather and it's getting red, but alive, so that's fine.
So, same seedling, white sapote, white sapote. Let's see what's going on other end.
Um Oh, a lot of watermelon that I just bought and a lot of small figs appearing on this uh um on this fig tree.
All right, what's going on in the backyard?
Uh coriander.
And then I've just planted this uh um a couple of uh persimmons from Bunnings.
So, as you can see, it's on quite a height um to help with the drainage.
It is alive for now. Let's see how long that works, but this was a very strong um specimen.
Um then I have uh avocados, which are probably ready, ready to harvest. This is the Edranol variety.
Massive, massive flush on the lychee.
Look at that, all the flush.
That's all the new flush on this lychee.
And some flush on the mangoes as well.
Another avocado. This is the Um this is the regular variety for you, the non-astringent one.
Um and I've also tried to propagate some of the um this uh p- pinto peanut.
So, trying to spread it and cover the ground.
Just like here, it's already here.
Um so, this is a seedling mango.
This one here is a nectarine.
And as you can see, it should start dropping the leaves, but all the leaves are still there.
So, the weather is still very, very warm.
A champion guava. This is a Mexican cream.
Um Couple of fruits remaining, otherwise almost done.
Uh this is the uh sapodilla BK D110.
Putting on new growth.
Sapodillas are extremely hardy.
Um Indian guava, which I got zero fruit because I gave it a very hard prune.
Shouldn't have done that, but I did it.
So, strange thing. Uh this guy here is the spicy, which is a nectarine and cherry or plum a hybrid.
It has lost all the leaves.
And then this uh peach tree has lost all almost all the leaves, but Ponkan mandarin and this nectarine is still full of leaves. Another peach almost lost all the leaves.
Um this Florigon mango has decided it's time to flower. Bad timing.
So, I'm removing the flowers, but overall it's looking good, pushing on new growth.
A lot of new growth this season on this jaboticaba seedling.
Uh these are the next guavas that will be ready, but these the the blandest tasting guavas I've ever had. These are the China pears.
If you don't If you like the bland taste of guava, this is the variety I would recommend. This guy just produces the massive guavas and they keep producing late in the season. This is like absolutely crazy tree.
I just don't like the taste, but you know, I I gave it a very hard cut, but it's still, uh you know, the new growth it was able to produce all these guavas.
And it's all It's It's It's crazy. This is like the number one producer.
Interesting thing going on here in my white sapote, which is, as you can see, becoming a massive tree.
Uh what's going on?
Difficult to get into with all this uh peach.
So, it is setting up flowers again, but I don't know if they will actually fruit. Um I've seen flowers before, but this time there are many, many more flowers, but no idea how or if soon they will fruit.
Uh we'll see. Really looking forward to it. This is the lemon gold white sapote.
Uh what else?
I'll go here.
China pear is done.
Um yeah, a lot of pomegranates in chicken area also losing their leaves, which is expected.
This is another sapodilla grafted.
Uh this one is um a craftway variety, which is the uh the most prolific variety. And this is the peanut uh pinto peanut that I'm trying to propagate everywhere.
Um I'm not a big fan of having the sweet potato as the ground cover because it they just keep spreading and they you need to take out the tubers, which disturbs the roots.
Yep, this one is the Ducasse dwarf. So, this is the first ever flower.
And obviously it has decided to flower uh right at the end of autumn.
But it is still pushing out it, so let's see if it survives the winter.
Um This is my Hawaiian Supreme guava, pink supreme.
Um top-notch fruits. This is the you know, the the tastiest and very prolific guava.
If you want one variety of guava and you like the guava taste, this is the one.
The one and only um avocado on this Hass avocado. They produce really big um and very creamy. But I like I like this tree because it is if I show you from far it is very slender and compact, so it just goes up like this.
So you have space for other things around it. So good to have it.
Obviously a lot of fruits on this moringa tree this year, which is good.
And also a lot of fruits on this peanut butter tree. So you can see some here, here, here, here.
So this this tree is also looking good.
The fruit is okay, not the greatest, but I'm fine with it. I It just produces good amount of fruits and it's just at the background.
So I'm not concerned about it. Uh obviously the yellow cherry guava is is full of fruits and setting out new flowers.
So these guys are like all the guava trees, these guys are also very very prolific.
I've removed one of the strawberry guavas, it's there.
It used to be there where the persimmon is, removed. And I will be removing all the other strawberry guavas as well.
Not a big fan. So this guy here is going out.
Um A lot of papayas everywhere. So even on the front yard the papayas are going nuts.
Um I don't know if they will ripe, but they're growing good.
Um this is the Amber Queen plum which has grown absolutely massive this year.
Let's see how many fruits it will set, but this is literally, I think, 2-year-old tree.
And just grown out of control.
Um this is the first time this uh Nam Dok Mai fruited.
Amazing fruit. I was not a big fan of Thai mangoes that you buy from the supermarket, but this has changed my thinking about it, and I really really love the the fruits of this uh Thai Nam Dok Mai guava uh sorry, Nam Dok Mai mango.
Obviously hard to eat, though.
Yep, that's it for the for the video, and I'll see you next time. Bye-bye.
