Sen. Ping Lacson slams Sen. Imee Marcos over charter change claims, calls remarks ‘propaganda’

[00:00:00]Another heated argument at the Senate [music] after Senator Amy Marcos is accused of spreading fake news over the issue of charter [music] change. Hana is reporting live from the Senate. Hana, tell us what happened.

[00:00:17]My Senator Ping Laxon has accused Senator Amy Marcos of fake news and pure propaganda after her privileged speech alleging a plot to extend the terms of elected officials through a charter change. Laxon described Marcus' claims as flat outright lies, particularly the allegation that the Senate Minority Block had been accusing or discussing constituent assembly or con to push for term extension. The senator even invoked the late entertainment journalist Indai Badidai, describing her as authentic, truthful, trusted, and credible before saying that what was presented on the Senate floor by Marcos was the complete opposite. Lakon clarified that the only thing the minority block has been discussing is how to save the integrity, dignity, and reputation of the Senate and not any plot to cancel the 2028 elections or extend terms of office. He also recalled a conversation he witnessed between former Senate President Titos Sto and House Speaker Bojidi involving a proposal to increase the number of senators from 24 to 36 and notterm extension for elected officials.

[00:01:25]He further denied claims that the minority wanted to raise the age requirement for president and vice president to disqualify Vice President Sarah Duterte, saying the actual discussion he heard was about lowering the age requirement from 40 to 35. Lakon was among the minority members who backed the motion of Senator Mig Zubidi to strike off the record the presidential sisters video that they considered offensive to fellow senators.

[00:01:50]Senator then took back the video as earlier appealed by Senate President Alan Peter Cayatano, but she expressed concern over her over her fellow lawmakers remarks.
