[00:00:01][music] >> I am absolutely delighted that we've got the opportunity to display these 28 paintings [music] by Claudia Williams and Gwilliam Prichard.

[00:00:13]They come direct from the family and I'm delighted [music] that we got Carrie with us here today who's going to show us around and give us a little taste of [music] this excellent exhibition. Well, Carrie, I've just got to say I am so excited [music] to get your parents work up on the wall.

[00:00:31]And thank you so much for letting us have the opportunity [music] to do this.

[00:00:34]>> pleasure. They They look fantastic. So nice seeing them, you know, displayed and and I think you've done a marvelous job, really.

[00:00:42]>> [music] >> Oh, well, thank you so much. Color coordination, stands out.

[00:00:49]I suppose what I should just say is [music] obviously you're Carrie Prichard, a wonderful painter yourself.

[00:00:57]>> Oh, thank you. But you're one of the children. You're the [music] son of of Claudia and >> and the eldest son.

[00:01:04]You're the eldest.

[00:01:05]>> I'm the senior one. Yes. Right, okay.

[00:01:07]>> [laughter] >> So lot lot of these [music] I recall from, you know, visiting their their house and studio in particular.

[00:01:15][music] So that one is very French, as you can see.

[00:01:20]Yeah. So this one's a when they were in France. Yeah, I'm sure she this would would have been painted [music] when they lived in in a town called Vannes in Brittany, and um >> [music] >> I I think you know, one of the main differences apart from stylistically [music] and and subject matter, but in terms of sort of um >> [music] >> their concerns, really.

[00:01:50]My mother was always um more um sort socially aware, if you like.

[00:01:57][music] You know, I mean, I guess because people were her main subject.

[00:02:01][music] And over here I'm loving this sort of warmer I mean, I've [music] hung these three together, but um just because they seem to talk well with each other.

[00:02:12]>> Yeah.

[00:02:13]Well, you've got the the musical notes.

[00:02:16]>> But just the color of that these but the periods probably vary [music] quite a lot. But it's really I mean, I just love the conversation these three paintings have.

[00:02:25]>> Yeah. They work very well together. So this sort [music] of painting here, would you have any idea where this might be? Because it's got this interesting landscape in there.

[00:02:34]I think so much of her work was composites from from sketchbooks. You know, they wouldn't be >> [music] >> a particular couple, but they would have been drawn from you know, [music] assembled from sketches. And this one is one of the largest paintings in the show.

[00:02:51]>> [music] >> Um Particularly, I really like this.

[00:02:57]It's It's amazing her, you know, the observation number is the way that she, you [music] know, even the details of the music. It's I don't know whether it's actually a >> Oh, I It'd be so fun to play it, wouldn't it, to see if it makes any sense at all.

[00:03:13]But yes, again, you know, the rather reminiscent of that in the in the in the way that you have a landscape through a window. But um >> [music] >> And actually, it's a bit reminiscent of sort of looking at uh Caernarfon Shire or Gwynedd from across the straits. It has that for me it has that that kind of feel [music] to it.

[00:03:39]There's this interesting large painting over here, >> [music] >> like a circus like a family going to visit a circus. [clears throat] Again, I don't know >> a fantasy? Is it Is it Is it >> [music] >> Is it like Do you remember going to the circus?

[00:03:53]Did she take it from [music] I do have a vague memory of going to one once upon a time when I was very very young and well, I think I must have been in [music] maybe in Pwllheli.

[00:04:05]Do you ever imagine that the the these could be [music] like you when you were younger? Um well, there's a lot of sort of very stylized sort of haircuts. My My mother used to cut our hair. We did look a little little bit like that. Yes.

[00:04:22]Running alongside this incredible exhibition, we have these wonderful souvenir brochures [music] of Gwilliam and Claudia's work. Uh it's just really nice because it just shows the body of work together along with some [music] nice photos of them and this these are available to purchase on our website or in the gallery.

[00:04:43]I think this is a lovely pleasing painting, isn't it? Yeah. [music] You were just mentioning [music] about get going in the car and having to go off [music] to some beach or whatever to for Gwilliam to be inspired.

[00:05:03]This could be like one of those.

[00:05:05]Yeah, this this would have been This [music] is Pembrokeshire, of course.

[00:05:10]So that which is where they moved to in much later life after their their time [music] in France.

[00:05:22]>> [music] >> Is this a Britain Is this um Is this in Britain? [music] That would be Britain, yes. It's joyous in color, isn't it?

[00:05:33]>> Yeah. Yeah.

[00:05:35]And I think it works, [music] you know, it doesn't sort of It's It's not shocking, you know, that [music] the those reds >> They >> [music] >> I mean, it's has a sort of yeah, quite quite a vibrancy to it.

[00:05:54]Um [music] And again, it's you know, this very varying [music] ways of palette knifing, you know, this kind of edgy sort of uh I mean, that was [music] his preferred method of of of grass and thorn trees sort of done with the edge [music] of the palette knife and then other areas much more a bit more Cuffin Williams type palette knife working.

[00:06:23]>> There's the sky going in the block of flat >> [music] >> This is unusual, isn't it? For um Gwilliam doing a such a sort of interesting still life. I Yeah, he he he did a series of uh well, irises, onion [music] flowers, and [music] I think in in part they would um when, you know, he didn't have the impetus to go out [music] or just as a as a as a break from uh Yeah. you know, landscapes.

[00:07:03]It's interesting, this sort of kind of painting in the background that [music] seems to sort of dissolve into the Yes. in in in into the the main painting. It It's a kind of interesting [music] idea, really. Yes, you can't quite work out where the where the painting finishes and the foreground and stuff.

[00:07:25]That's really This is really cool. Um it's a it's very unusual um in in that sense of a painting within within a painting.

[00:07:36]And then, [music] of course, this shape It's not not a sort of abstracted face.

[00:07:42]It's [music] It's a palette. Yes, that's right. Well, that's it. I assume that's it.

[00:07:50]>> [laughter] >> So but this this incredible [music] body of work is going to be on display at our gallery from the 17th of April to the [music] 9th of May. So we're really hoping you can come and see it. It's a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity because we [music] may never again have such a group of work by these two artists for sale at the same time.
