Mamdani’s refusal to join the elite spectacle exposes the hollow nature of high-society activism. It is a powerful reminder that genuine social justice is found in the factories, not on the red carpet.

Saat Elite Pesta di Met Gala… Pemimpin Muslim Ini Pilih Kunjungi Orang MiskinAdded:
Instantly calms me though is just knowing that like Mayor Mom Donnie is here, you know, like it's all going to be okay because like Mayor Mom Dani's here, you know.
So, Zoran Momdoni is not going to the Met Galax. He probably has to host another tourist for dinner at Gracy Mansion.
You see, Mamdani is calling out the extreme inequality in the fashion industry. Instead of the red carpet, the New York State Assemblyman spent the night with people who actually made the clothes.
N Galaam when the red stairs turn into a stage for the world's elite.
Luxurious gowns were on display, cameras flashing non-stop. As if the world forgot. There are many people out there who even have difficulty buying dinner.
And to be able to enter this event, you don't just have to be famous. Ticket prices for MT Gala 2026 reportedly reached hundreds of millions of rupiah per person.
Meanwhile, one exclusive table can cost billions of rupiah.
For New York's upper class, this is more than just a fashion party. It is a status symbol where the elite gather and show off their influence. That's why the Mayor of New York is usually always present there.
We are here at the Maller carpet or in this case I should say green carpet waiting for attendees to arrive.
Everyone you see behind me now is the press. We get a little bit of a glimpse before everybody else. But someone who will not be in attendance is actually Mayor Mom Doni. He says he's focused on keeping the United States's most expensive city affordable. But it breaks a tradition of mayors and political officials showing up to the stars studied fundraiser. Let's take a look back at how it breaks that tradition. The MEGAL began in 1948. However, it wasn't until 2007 that a New York major made their first appearance. Starting with Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The tradition took hold when Bloomberg's successor, Mayor De Blazio, decided to attend despite avoiding the event until his final year in office here in 2021. Then came the swagger mayor, mayor Eric Adams, who felt right at home on fashion's biggest night during his first year in office in 2022.
Although the list of mayors is short, many other politicians have walked the carpet here from former secretaries of state to Vice President Kamala Harris and even one future president. Ronald Reagan in 1977.
And it turns out Mamdani wasn't the only one who chose to stay away from the event.
Several activist groups have also called for a boycott of Medgala 2026 because the event is funded by Jeff Bezos. A figure who many critics consider a symbol of modern capitalism which is unfair to workers.
Activist groups are calling for a boycott of Jeff Bezoos Metgalla by projecting these messages on his $10 million Kenthouse and on the Chrysler building.
Bezos and his wife Lauren Sanchez Basos are the event's main benefactors.
But for Zhran Mamdani, the issue may be more than just a fashion event. Because long before Medgala 2026 was held, he had openly criticized the capitalist system which he said made a handful of people live like kings.
Meanwhile, the workers only got the rest of the applause.
So when people say Democratic socialist, right, and I'm curious what you think this means. I mean, do you like capitalism? No, I I have many critiques of capitalism and I think ultimately the definition for me of why I call myself a democratic socialist is the words of Dr. Kane decades ago. He said, "Call it democracy or call it democratic socialism. There must be a better distribution of wealth for all of God's children in this country." And that's what I'm focused on is dignity and taking on income inequality. And for too long, politicians have pretended that we're spectators to that crisis of affordability. We're actually actors and we have the choice to exacerbate it like Major Adams has done or to respond to it and resolve it like I'm planning to do.
And from that moment on, Mamdani was not just considered an ordinary politician, to his supporters he was seen as a voice of resistance against the old elite.
But for his critics, especially those who have been suspicious of progressive Muslim figures like him from the start, Mamdani's every move is considered a threat.
Even his absence from Medgala was immediately twisted into a point of attack.
So, Zoran Mamdani is not going to the Metalla. It's probably the most important thing that he's done as major so far and who knows why he's missing it. He probably has to host anotherist for dinner at Gracy Mansion.
And that's how politics works these days. While one camp is busy throwing stigmas, the other camp starts asking questions.
If he wasn't at Medgala that night, then who was Zohran Mamdani actually with?
Zoan Mamdani skip theat.
Instead of the red carpet, the New York State Assemblyman spent the night with people who actually made the clothes.
You see, Mamdani is calling out the extreme inequality in the fashion industry where a single garment ticket costs $75,000 US while thousands of garment workers face wage theft and poor working conditions. He's pushing for the Fashion Act, a bill that would hold major brands accountable for their environmental and labor practices. Is it time for high fashion for low wages?
And perhaps that's where many citizens began to see something different about him. Because in a city as big as New York, the little people are often just numbers. But that night, when the elites were seeking the spotlight, some workers like this woman felt that someone had finally noticed their presence.
And just like the state of the world right now, I feel like just existing and working in one of the biggest cities in the world, New York City, like I I just feel like it's like a scary place to be in a way just cuz there's so many people and it's just like not always the safest. Um, so I don't know. Something that just instantly calms me though is just knowing that like Mayor Mom Donny is here, you know, like it's all going to be okay because like Mayor Mom Dani's here. I know a lot of things are like established federally, but I feel like he's just going to protect us in a not weird, not religious way. Obviously, that just like religious sounds. Anyway, in a non-weird way, he's just like he's gonna protect us and it's fine.
Like like he's looking out for the people of New York and like he wouldn't let anything bad happen to us.
Does this sound crazy? This sounds a little crazy. I know he's just a guy and just a major, but like he's just so comforting to me. I just found him I found him very comforting again in like not a weird way. Okay, thanks Mayor Mam Doni.
Perhaps that's why a sense of calm continues to blossom in the hearts of New Yorkers when they look at Zohran Mamdani. He is not here as perfection, but as an answer for those who have been neglected.
While many leaders are busy polishing their image, he chooses to sit with souls who escape the camera lens.
History proves that people may submit because they are afraid. However, their love will only be anchored in a leader who is a shield for their fragility.
According to the words of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam, a just leader is God's shade on earth.
True justice is not born from the glitter of red carburetors. It is a spring that radiates from a heart that still trembles when it hears the moans of small people.
Yeah.
