Phylicia Ashley reports from outside the Washington Hilton

[00:00:00]All right, let's get back to that breaking news right now. A shooting at the White House correspondents dinner with President Trump, Vice President Vance, and other cabinet members in attendance. They were all whisked away as the chaos just erupted. We want to get back out now to our Washington DC reporter, Felicia Ashley. She's near the Hilton Hotel where the dinner was taking place. Felicia, what's the scene look like right now?

[00:00:25]>> Right. Okay. Well, you mentioned the chaos and everyone having to be swept away when the shooting happened. Now that we are a few hours out, we're seeing some of that chaos die down here outside. We are just two blocks away from the Washington Hilton. This scene, even just about 10 minutes ago, we still saw a lot of law enforcement vehicles, federal officers, the FBI still back and forth towards the direction of the Hilton. Right now, we're we're seeing that investigation part since this shooting. What we have seen now, all the crowds that were inside of that dinner, they seem to have all exited, made their way out. We saw a lot of people obviously trying to find other ways to get home. They weren't allowed anywhere near the hotel. We did get a chance to speak with people who were inside and they spoke to us just about some of the fear that they felt. Others mostly felt confusion because they just weren't sure what was happening in that moment. And then of course, as the night developed, as more updates came out, they learned that it was in fact a shooting inside of the hotel. Now, we did get a chance to speak with someone who was in the room when the shots went off. He said he felt like he heard them from coming from above him rather. And he said he heard about four to five shots.

[00:01:34]And on top of that, what you are seeing right now is the scene, as I mentioned, just about two blocks away from where this shooting happened. And I want to show you the direction of where the motorcades came when it came to getting the president out of the hotel as well as the Congress members and the vice president. They came down this road and headed south. Of course, we're going to keep you updated on all the other details that end up unfolding from this shooting.
