Putin Heads To Beijing Just Days After Trump's China Visit: Reports | Firstpost America | N18GAdded:
Donald Trump has left Beijing, and now another world leader is heading to China. This time it's Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to reports, Putin is expected to visit Beijing on May 20th for a one-day trip. While neither Moscow nor Beijing has officially confirmed the date, preparations appear to be almost complete. A Kremlin spokesperson said on Thursday that the visit would happen very soon.
And that only the final touches remained. Well, the timing of the visit is drawing global attention. Trump wrapped up his three-day China trip on Friday, and now within days of Trump's departure, Xi Jinping is expected to sit down with Vladimir Putin.
According to the South China Morning Post, Putin's trip will likely be more low-key. Sources say there are no plans for elaborate ceremonies or large public events.
Chinese officials have reportedly been occupied with Trump's visit, and Putin's stop has been described as part of Moscow's routine engagement with Beijing. Even so, the symbolism is impossible to ignore. It will be the first time China has hosted the leaders of both United States and Russia in the same month outside a multilateral summit, and Beijing appears eager to position itself as a power capable of balancing relations with both Washington and Moscow at a time when the global order is becoming increasingly fractured. Well, the visit will also underline how close China and Russia have become since the start of the Ukraine war in 2022.
Beijing has repeatedly described ties with Moscow as rock solid, and trade between the two countries has continued to grow, giving Russia a crucial economic lifeline even as Western sanctions continue to bite, resulting in a statement of gratitude. Mr. But, it's a dirty I thank you for the warm welcome extended to our entire delegation. Our close communication reflects the strategic nature of Russia-China relations, which are at an unprecedentedly high level.
formal apology China is willing to work with Russia to support each other's revitalization and development, steadily defend international justice and fairness, and promote and build a more fair and equitable global governance system.
Well, Putin and Xi are no strangers to each other. The two leaders have met more than 40 times over the years. Their most recent interaction took place in February this year through a video call.
And Putin also visited China last September for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Tianjin and attended China's massive military parade marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. If the visit goes ahead as expected, China will achieve another diplomatic milestone. Within just a few months, Beijing would have hosted all four other permanent members of the UN Security Council. French President Emmanuel Macron visited China in December. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer had followed in January. Trump arrived this week and now Putin could be next.
So, the message is clear. China wants to be seen as the one capital where all major powers still come to talk.
But what now comes after all the handshakes and photo ops? Well, Trump has just left Beijing promising an historic future for US-China ties and Putin is now arriving as Russia leans more heavily on China than ever before.
Xi Jinping will soon find himself walking a delicate line between two rival powers both trying to shape the next chapter of the global order.
