We Must Get Ready for a Post-Liberal Revolution

[00:00:09]He famously said, right? You can travel to Italy, but you would never be an Italian.

[00:00:15]You can travel to France, but you'll never be a Frenchman. You can live in Germany, but you would never be a German.

[00:00:21]You can pack your bags and live the rest of your life in China or Japan, and you will never be Chinese or Japanese.

[00:00:28]But you can travel from any one of those countries to establish roots in the United States of America, and you can still be an American, so long as you work hard, you play by the rules, you make your contributions, wait your turn, pledge allegiance to the flag, and obtain your citizenship in the right way.

[00:00:49]That is America.

[00:00:51]Interesting comments there from Vivek Ramaswamy, very much on the right wing of the liberal machine.

[00:01:00]And I wanted you to drill down on this video, because this gets to the heart of the ideology across the Western world when it comes to identity.

[00:01:09]Ramaswamy is utilizing a common trick we see with American politicians.

[00:01:15]And that's presenting Europe as a certain way in order to buttress their worldview.

[00:01:21]We get it a lot with talk of immigration. J.D. Vance, Trump, and the rest of them will come over to Europe and lecture us about the state we're in, without recognizing that what, 57% of heritage Americans left and shrinking. Of course, it's to overlook what's happening at home and paint a picture that out there it's much worse.

[00:01:43]Ramaswamy is doing a similar thing here, because if you live in Europe, you'll know that this ideology that he's promoting has been forced on Europe, too. In fact, only yesterday I was talking about this new Spanish Prime Minister.

[00:01:57]He was saying he's fighting the right in the quote extreme right as he regularizes half a million migrants in his country, stating quote, "We are the children of migration in Spain. We will not be the parents of xenophobia. We're on the right side of history."

[00:02:13]It's the same ideology, you know? We have no essence as Spanish people. We have no essence as Italian people. And we certainly get the same lecture as Brits.

[00:02:23]In essence, what Ramaswamy is doing here is selling a story. It will probably still land with the liberal boomer generation, both left and right. But beyond that, it's a story that's falling apart in an era of massive demographic change. Now, as I say, already we can point out that he is off base in the fact that the Europeans, being part of the American empire, too, have had this identity forced upon them that they're rootless, pluralistic.

[00:02:52]Secondly, many American dissidents argue this point. Beyond my remit, really, but they make an argument that America was founded as a European country, and that was even in the Constitution at the beginning of the age of America.

[00:03:06]But more importantly, what really interests me is Ramaswamy's definition of what it means to be an American. He stated it it's to work hard, it's to follow the rules, whatever they are, to contribute, to wait your turn, to pledge to the flag, and to obtain citizenship legally.

[00:03:29]Now, to me, this seems to reduce the idea of being American to a bundle of compliance behaviors and productivity norms. Really, it's about work and obeying a sense of social order.

[00:03:43]Ironically, this does hearken back to something uniquely American in that it speaks to a sort of Anglo-Germanic Protestant ethic around working values and community and society.

[00:03:58]But Ramaswamy, as all liberals do, takes the surface level interpretation and won't look into the roots of where these ideas come from themselves.

[00:04:08]I.e., the very ideology he speaks of came out of a particular people and a particular time in history. His assumption is you can just import anybody from anywhere, and they will replicate that same culture. Now, the problem Ramaswamy has is the same problem as the European liberal in that if you are to take their conception of identity on board, you realize it becomes absurd quite quickly.

[00:04:37]After all, say if you are an Anglo-American with a direct lineage back to the Mayflower, but you don't work hard, you don't follow the rules, whatever they are this week, you don't contribute, you don't wait your turn, you don't pledge to the flag.

[00:04:53]By Vivek Ramaswamy's definition, you're not an American. And we have this same absurdity here in Europe. In fact, it's even more absurd, because we often have been here for thousands of years in our generations. We've had this in Britain, you know, the far right, quote unquote, need to integrate with the immigrants who've been here what, 20, 30 years, despite our families being here thousands. It becomes completely irrational and crazy. Now, I and others have explored many times how this state of play came about. From left-wing ideology and the long march through the institutions. Some people point to the Frankfurt School and other interest groups who pushed certain ideologies in various different ways. To people just saying, "Look, we're at the end of our civilization, and we've lost a sense of cohesive identity." You could even arguably say it's globalism, even maybe the interests of capital, which don't like the idea of heritage and lineage, because it interrupts the smooth flow of money over borders. I'd probably say it's all of those things and more. But how do we solve it? Cuz this is the big question, not just for Americans, but every person of European heritage, if you're concerned by our demographic replacement and our ultimate decline.

[00:06:11]Now, as I point out on the channel a lot, there are many groups and ideologies and evil forces we can point to when speaking about the decline of the West.

[00:06:21]But ultimately, we have to ask the question, what allowed these to enter in the first place? That's the only real question. I often point to the language of male initiation, you know, through the hole of the absent father, demons enter. You can apply that civilizationally.

[00:06:38]And I think when we had a fracture in our tradition, we lost, if you like, our spiritual armor, it allowed all manner of rogue ideas to come in and really rip apart our identity at the very root level.

[00:06:51]We can see this very much in America, because America really grew out of Enlightenment era liberal philosophy in the Western world, particularly Anglo, bit of French in there as well.

[00:07:04]And this philosophy famously prioritized individual rights, consent, law-based legitimacy over inherited hierarchy, over the non-rational ideas that tied us together. Essentially, our collective focus in the West, especially the Anglo-West, and especially America, moved away from the anchors of religion, ethnicity, blood ties, and local tradition, and towards more of a sort of civic membership idea rooted in political principles.

[00:07:38]Ergo, citizenship is sort of defined more by participation in legal political order than by shared biological, cultural, or spiritual identity.

[00:07:51]Now, as I'm sure you're aware, there are massive arguments over this in the world of political philosophy. But I personally think it's evident that a lot of these Enlightenment era philosophers and the politicians of the age, and even the citizens, did assume that this ideology, this philosophy, applied to them as a people. If you like, there was a an implicit understanding that this was regarding Anglo people or Europeans. But over time, this was fleshed out to include everybody. It was extrapolated worldwide and grew into what we now know as contemporary liberalism. And as I like to explore a lot on the channel, that is actually combined with the market mechanism, especially the Protestant ideas of the market mechanism. That echoes a sort of civic morality, where virtue is measured in discipline, hard work, rule-following.

[00:08:48]It's closer to a sort of economic citizenship more than a philosophical, metaphysical, ethnic identity. And this leads us to the central question of our age that every Westerner must ask himself, and every Western nation must provide an answer on. It's concentrated in America predominantly, but given the breadth of the American empire, it applies to us all.

[00:09:13]And that's this notion that do we stick with the liberal conception of identity, or do we say it always had an implied sense of a European origin in it all?

[00:09:25]But there's an even bigger question than that, which is if this politics, if this ideology got us to this place in the first instance, if it's so ripe for exploitation, should we not hearken back to something more root level in an era of existential crisis? And this is what many of us mean in Europe when we are wary of Americanization.

[00:09:48]I know many Americans think the European means they're anti-American people.

[00:09:53]That's not exactly it. Europeans uh see Americans as the same people as them.

[00:09:59]When people talk of Americanization, what they mean is um this idea of exporting a culture uh uh and a sense of identity really as a fluid choice-based uh political sense of identity, which creates a sense of hyperreality, uh which is governed by corporate capitalistic symbols and media narratives that are ripe for abuse from all manner of alien ideology and fake curated identities that uh wash over older, more grounded forms of belonging that I refer to as uh the non-rational.

[00:10:36]So, the implication here is obviously quite a big one.

[00:10:40]Really, Western man has a choice, especially Americans. They either stick with Vivek Ramaswamy's ideology of what it means to be an American, which is applied to every Western nation, just hope by importing infinity permalians they will adopt the Protestant ethic and nothing will change. Seems a little bit fanciful to me that one.

[00:11:00]Or, we move to a world which is really post-Americanization.

[00:11:05]That's not post-America as a nation. I think that can go on, but it's the Americanization principle that we have to move beyond fundamentally if we're to survive uh as a people into the long run.

[00:11:18]I also believe this is why you'll find a lot of the MAGA base have a real hatred towards Europeans. It's It's quite powerful.

[00:11:26]And it seems to me that somebody's drumming that up because to my mind we either stand together and see out this very challenging time, or we will be scattered. And when we're alone and apart as individuals as the West is at the moment, uh we won't last very long.

[00:11:43]So, ultimately, we are facing a whole new era. The post-liberal era uh is upon us. And that means, to my mind, we're going to have to think differently about what a nation is, about what a civilization is, about what a human being is, about what a collective is. If we're not willing to do that, I think we'll fall back into the same trap that's already corroding us from the inside out.
