Lisa Lucas-Burke responds to FBI presence at mother's office

[00:00:00]We are continuing our coverage of breaking news in Portsouth. The FBI is conducting an investigation at the offices of Portsouth State Senator Louise Lucas. Drone 10 is live here above one of the locations off County Street. We first told you about this as breaking news on wavy.com and the Wavy Plus app about an hour ago. And we now have live team coverage of this situation for you on air. 10 on your sides Andy Fox is on the scene at Lucas's main office. He's working to find out exactly why this probe is happening and what those agents are looking for. Andy, what can you tell us right now?

[00:00:37]>> Well, right behind me, you just saw two uh more FBI agents go on inside Lucas Lodge. Uh now we have had a development and and it kind of is important to kind of lay the groundwork on what we are expecting, but FBI agents just took in two cases of bottled water and a cooler, giving us of course the indication that this is going to go on for some time.

[00:01:03]I will tell you uh we also have the uh FBI um spokesperson over here. And now what's important about the uh Lucas Lodge is where they are right now. Where the FBI is right now is in the Lucas Lodge that provides Medicaid waiver services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. And they've been doing that since 1998. It appears as though that's where all the FBI agents are gathered. Uh we cannot see in to the left here is an elevator that will take you up to uh Senator Lucas's offices, but we can see that over straight ahead are FBI agents in that part. We do know that the AP is reporting that um this is part of a corruption probe and we do know that FBI executed a court authorized search warrant. Now, earlier today, Lisa Lucas Burke, who is Louise Lucas's daughter, spoke with us. We got that on tape. I want you to listen to what she had to say. Lisa, >> does it have to do with the business here or the cannabis shop?

[00:02:14]>> I don't I don't know. Both of them have our Lucas name on it, so we don't know what's going on.

[00:02:18]>> Have you been told anything by the FBI?

[00:02:20]>> No.

[00:02:21]>> No.

[00:02:21]>> What are your thoughts?

[00:02:22]>> I I have no idea.

[00:02:24]>> I think I saw your mom here, then she left. Is that true?

[00:02:26]>> Oh, yeah. She's gone. My mom's gone.

[00:02:28]They they she's not here today.

[00:02:31]>> Did uh what time did this all go down?

[00:02:33]>> I I I have no idea. We've been out here about an hour. So, I think so.

[00:02:39]>> Does it does it have anything to do with the uh healthcare?

[00:02:42]>> Nothing to do with our healthcare. I But I don't know. They they hear the search everything related to Lucas.

[00:02:50]>> What do you think it is?

[00:02:51]>> I have no idea. I have no idea. Don't know. You'll find out when we find out.

[00:02:57]Yeah, but it's devastating for our individuals who have developmental disabilities to have to go through this today and and our staff, you know, to not know what's going on. So, I have no idea.

[00:03:08]>> Did you have any idea this may be happening?

[00:03:10]>> No.

[00:03:11]>> It says it's a court approved >> I guess, you know, something that you can share.

[00:03:18]>> Okay.

[00:03:19]>> Wait, what what did you say? Hold it.

[00:03:20]>> They said it was court approved law enforcement.

[00:03:22]>> Yeah.

[00:03:23]>> Okay.

[00:03:23]>> Yeah. What they've said is that it is court approved law enforcement and that's why they're here. Do you know what that >> I don't know what that means? So we we >> you know what they're looking for?

[00:03:33]>> No, don't know.

[00:03:38]>> Well, we know that somewhere it's got to be listed because it is a court authorized search warrant that was uh initiated here. We have two employees of the Lucas Lodge here in this car. Uh gentlemen, can you come here and talk with me live?

[00:03:54]They are here in the card. They uh have been refusing to make any comment, but they are saying that they have no comment and they don't know what's going on. But you heard from Lisa Lucas Burke.

[00:04:05]Uh it is uh certainly devastating to them that this has happened. Uh and of course next door is the cannabis shop and it looks as though both are being uh investigated at this time. We are also learning, I won't give you the address, but there is also another address where it's possible that some of these FBI agents, according to a witness who saw it all happen and spoke with us on camera, and I'll have that for you coming up later on Wavy News 10 at 45 and 6, but she said early this morning there was some type of an event that took place and right next door to where she is. We've sent someone over there to check it out. I won't give you the address though until we get everything confirmed on that. But once again, Joy, uh, this is the scene right here, uh, uh, Louise Lucas, the Lucas Lodge, uh, that provides Medicaid waiver services for those with, uh, intellectual and developmental disability. Uh, now part of this investigation. And again, the FBI agents are uh, in that room straight ahead where they just came out of, right in there.
