[00:00:01]House oversight Democrats have filed a civil contempt resolution against former Attorney General Pam Bondi over the Epstein files investigation. Here's what's happening and why this matters.

[00:00:12]Congressman Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, says that Bondi failed to appear for a deposition after being subpoenaed by the committee. The deposition was part of the committee's investigation into how the Justice Department handled records related to Jeffrey Epstein. The Guardian also reported that the Justice Department said that Bondi was no longer required to testify because she was no longer attorney general, but the committee has not withdrawn the subpoena. Garcia says that Bondi has personal knowledge about the Trump administration's handling of the Epstein files and that her testimony is important to the investigation. So, a civil contempt resolution is a formal step Congress can use when it believes someone is to find a lawful subpoena. It does not mean that Bondi has been found in contempt yet.
