Political coalitions face significant internal instability when power-sharing arrangements become contested, as demonstrated by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) where tensions between Atiku Abubakar's and Rotimi Amaechi's camps over vice presidential nominations and presidential ticket allocation have created a crisis, with both leaders having submitted presidential nomination forms and Amaechi's supporters demanding southern representation for the presidential ticket, illustrating how coalition politics often leads to internal division when power rotation and fairness principles are not respected.

ATIKU VS AMAECHI - A NEW POWER CLASH WITHIN ADC - ADC PRIMARY TAKES ANOTHER TWIST - ADC NEWS TODAYAdded:
[laughter] >> We have said it severally that the African Democratic Congress ADC may not survive the tension till 2027, but many are still doubting.
>> [laughter] >> You see Peter Obi is a very smart politician. Peter Obi as a smart politician for saw this chaos and decided to leave them with their confusion. Now it's becoming clearer that the ADC is gradually losing momentum as there's rumors of a fresh clash between the Atiku and Amaechi camps within the ADC.
Before we enter the full gist, remember to subscribe for more educational political gist and deep political analysis like this.
So, it is becoming increasingly clear that there is serious tension quietly building inside the African Democratic Congress ADC ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Recall that some months ago strong rumors emerged that Atiku Abubakar's camp was allegedly pushing for Governor Seyi Makinde to become the vice presidential candidate under the ADC coalition arrangement. In fact, the discussions became so intense that many Amaechi supporters felt insulted politically. Because from the way things were allegedly being projected at the time, it looked like Amaechi was already being sidelined completely from the major power equation inside the coalition.
Some people within Atiku's camp allegedly made it look like the VP position was already reserved for Makinde and that created quite anger among supporters of Rotimi Amaechi. Why?
Because Amaechi is not a lightweight politician. This is a former governor, former minister and a major political force from the South South. So, many of his supporters believed he deserved more respect politically within the coalition.
But now the political equation is changing again and this is where the drama becomes very interesting. Despite all the rumors and negotiations, Makinde never defected to the ADC. As we speak today, Seyi Makinde still remained inside the PDP as governor of Oyo state.
Until date, he has not shown any sign of joining the ADC coalition. And that appears to have disrupted some of the calculations inside Atiku's camp.
Now, reports and political speculations are suggesting that some forces within Atiku's camp are allegedly trying to soften their stance toward Amaechi again.
The same Amaechi who previously felt politically ignored is now suddenly becoming important again within the coalition in the absence of Makinde.
But here's the biggest problem.
Amaechi's camp is not even interested in the VP position again.
As we are talking right now, both Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi have already picked the ADC presidential nomination forms worth about 90 million naira.
Meaning both men are currently running for president. In fact, Amaechi has repeatedly maintained through his aids that he's interested only in the presidential ticket and not in becoming anybody's running mate. And honestly, this is where the ADC may start facing another serious internal crisis.
Amaechi's supporters are allegedly insisting that if the ADC truly wants fairness and balance, then the presidential ticket should go to the south just as the NDC did in their recent convention. So, from their perspective, giving the ADC presidential ticket to a northerner immediately may create serious political contradiction.
Now, look at the situation critically.
Peter Obi has already left. Kwankwaso has already left. The coalition is already weakened compared to what many Nigerians initially expected. Now, internal tension is growing again over who should become the presidential candidate. And this looks politically dangerous for ADC. And many insiders and supporters are already worried that old PDP and APC political pattern is gradually entering the ADC structure.
Habits like power struggle, habits like zoning disputes, habits like internal betrayal. And if care is not taken, this may eventually become another coalition that starts with excitement but ends in internal division.
