South Florida is experiencing a significant heatwave with temperatures rising to the upper 80s and potentially reaching 90°F by Thursday-Friday, accompanied by increasing humidity that will make conditions feel more like June or July. The region is also dealing with a Highway 41 wildfire that has burned 450 acres with 0% containment, though wind patterns are steering smoke away from metropolitan areas. Residents should expect only a 10% chance of rain during the workweek, with moisture returning by the weekend when temperatures will drop to the mid-80s.

South Florida scorcher expected as temperatures skyrocket this week, weekendAdded:
Always tracking, always alerting. This is Next Weather. I'm Next Weather Meteorologist Lisette Gonzalez and we are tracking wildfire in Miami-Dade County. Only stray showers today. We desperately need the rain because of the ongoing drought and the fire, but we are in for hotter and wetter weather on the way. In fact, look at these numbers as it's going to be a toasty Tuesday ahead.
Temperatures will be well above average already with the upper 80s. Tomorrow even a little warmer and then we may see our first 90° day on Thursday into Friday kicking off the month of May feeling more like June or July as the humidity will be on the rise. And then the rain chance will increase Sunday into Monday. Hopefully that will pan out because we do need the rain to bring us some relief and help us with these dry conditions. But as we check in on what's next, or right now, you'll notice that Next Weather Radar is quiet and dry and we are keeping an eye on these numbers already on the rise. 84 in Key West, 83 in Homestead and Miami and Fort Lauderdale. 84 in Kendall, 85 in Pembroke Pines and monitoring the wind which currently is out of the northeast or east 10-12 mph. And that's due to the fact that we're tracking this Highway 41 wildfire located on Tamiami Trail west of Krome Avenue, about 11 miles west of Sweetwater. Burned 450 acres so far. It is 0% contained. Air quality is good for now, but earlier it was moderate for Miami-Dade. And as we take a look at your Next Weather Smoke Tracker, you'll notice that the wind out of the east-northeast is going to help to steer the smoke away from the metro areas, but obviously not helping in the containment of this fire. As we take a look at what's next here the rest of the day as you're planning to get ready to walk your dog. Well, of course it's very warm and muggy out there. So you may want to wait until later this evening, but check out Milo certainly ready for a nice walk and cozying up with his teddy bear. And you can send your photos in to [email protected].
We'd love to share them during our new newscast. Highs will climb to the upper 80s today as we'll be well above average already for this time of year. Normal high is 84. There is a moderate risk of rip current, so be careful if you're headed to the beach. No alerts or advisories if you're going to be boating out in the Atlantic waters. And then our Next Weather Rain Tracker showing a few showers may pop up around 2-3 p.m., but then most of the action does move toward the interior or the Gulf Coast. We got plenty of drier air as high pressure dominates the weather pattern here the rest of the work and school week, but by the weekend we'll see that moisture returning. Next Weather 7-day forecast reflects that as we are going to see those rain chances staying low, only a 10% chance of rain as high soar to run 90 by Thursday. Friday certainly going to be sizzling, breezy on Saturday and then likely soggy on Sunday into Monday when temperatures come down to the mid-80s.
