Ramaphosa looks forward to receiving final Madlanga report

[00:00:00]Another of the priorities we identified in the State of the Nation address is to fight crime and corruption.

[00:00:09]We continue to rebuild and strengthen our law enforcement agencies, the security services, the National Prosecuting Authority, and specialized anti-corruption bodies.

[00:00:23]A critical area of focus is the South African Police Service.

[00:00:30]We look forward to receiving the final report of the Commission of inquiry into criminality, political interference, and corruption in the criminal justice system, which is chaired by Judge Mpati.

[00:00:48]The findings and recommendations of the Commission are expected to bolster our efforts to strengthen the South African Police Service.

[00:01:00]The work of the Commission is already having an impact.

[00:01:05]Following the submission of the Commission's first interim report in December of last year, the South African Police Service, working with the National Prosecuting Authority, set up a special task team to investigate referrals arising from the Commission.

[00:01:26]Now, this task team has begun its work in earnest and has already brought a number of cases to court following a number of arrests that have been effected.

[00:01:41]We must be unequivocal.

[00:01:44]Public office is a public trust.

[00:01:48]Those who abuse public resources for private gain betray our Constitution.

[00:01:56]They undermine development and steal from the poor in our country.

[00:02:03]There will be no tolerance for corruption regardless of position, status, or political affiliation.
