The Ruiru vampire, African lore, and why shape-shifting, not vampirism, was our lore.

And therefore if you want to know about vampirism, let us look at that European one. African Akuna, we don't have a lot of laws that have to deal with drinking blood. Blood for the African is food.

[00:00:53]But when it comes to the western law that birthed now the vampire mythology comes from an real life inspiration when Vlad that prince in uh staked the people he killed during the great war between Christians and the Ottomans when he killed them he forced them to drink blood you remember there's a lot of law of blood and Christianity drink their blood and then also impelled them and so in the Roman ster in in the inspiration now for Dracula. Dracula the vampire 1890 it's inspired from that but now you have now to create this creature born out of inspiration. So there's this terrifying thing. There's also this everlasting life. There is also this thing of cruelty but within cruelty some form of redemption and also their vulnerabilities but also the super uh natural elements. So they create Dracula who is who can turn into a B. So that's part of the supernatural, the speed, the inhuman speed and the ability to almost teleport, right? The the way they move and of course ability to fight. And so you are given this and the immortality that that's part of it. But then they give you two things, the weaknesses within yourselves and others how others can subdue you. And in the submission is the stake, right? But also they bring out the element of Christianity. And that is why the cross became a thing for for for vampires like unholy water. So you can see the correlation between the the real life case that inspired this to what the creature the myth the mythological creature becomes. So the evolution of that vampire, we see it fully and it is opened up in now the vampire daries where you have the Salvatore brothers who demon and Stefan who you can see one just like the dynamic between Lazard and and and and Louie one likes has embraced their vampire nature. The other one is in denial that Stefan but Stefan becomes a he drinks human blood. So he's doing artificial vegetarian blood so to speak. But then you realize for this person they sacrifice their goodnatured vampire is suppressing a a very bad thing inside them. And so you you can see the badness being managed but also now the tox the relationship becomes more toxic because these are brothers and they are living in forever circle of hate and self sabotage and all that and then you have Katherine Pierce Elena whatever anyway but the dynamic of now the pure tone the person who is controlled and versus the one leaving themselves is further explored now with in true blood right in true You see Bill Compton versus uh Eric North Northman. It's been a while, but Eric, right? And Eric is the sheriff, right? He's living like the Viking he was is over a thousand years. And then you have Bill Comton, southern gentleman who looks gentleman, huh? He's so good and so good. And when they fall for when he falls for Suki stuck house because Suki is the one they chasing B. She's a fairy. her blood can help them walk in the sun because another vulnerability of now a vampire is inability to walk in the sun. So for all these vampires, the sun is their enemy is their primal enemy. And I think this is important because maybe that's why Africans could not create a mythical creature where the sun is your enemy. In what world? In what world? Anyway, so because of this then you realize that even Bill Compton, right? He's there still a good guy like like Stefan in the Salvat brothers but he you realize he had been he is an operative. So Aadali Eric who just if you're not English so it's better Eric who is sincere in it. He even has the entire vampire experience with Fantasia. That was a great place to be. Actually, season one and to three of Two Blood. Gosh, that that was some of the best. And HBO delivers when it is delivering delivered.

[00:07:20]Nicholas and Elijah. I love Nicholas because he's chaos. He's real. And not just because now he has he's also like a hybrid cuz he has the likethropy which is interesting but because Elijah is good.

[00:07:40]He has that place he has hidden but he's in a suit and Elijah is the worst because he's you think you're getting manners you're getting torn you're getting civilized but he's so cold and ruthless and it's interesting it's a dynamic but to me for me my friend would be cloud because the worst sorry not cloud nichlaus the worst claus can do to do is kill you.

[00:08:13]Elijah not so much Elijah will give you hope of living and then you will realize this was hell that he gave you. So Claus at least he does that. But the interesting dynamic now of the originals is their vulnerability and how it is now almost removed right they are not they don't have an issue with the sun they can actually make daylight rings and whatever they the also this religious because they seem to have been born before their world is not is the stick and for the originals is the white rock sticks that that is almost extinct so class loves daggering his always and forever siblings keeps them until it lasted always and forever them. You can only see evolution of the vampire in the originals because this time the child that is born is born of a hybrid and that's when you create life. It's not death and this child even changes the dynamic of the family forever. this family that had lived also in the same toxic environment changes as a result of a child being born and even uh Claus's hybrid nature becomes of use and you can compare hope with cloud the start the child that was turned and you see this grotesque creature that was born out of selfish means just so that they can be transformed yet there is life here there is growth so for the African we we we we prefer the transform information.
