The SAVE Act's voter ID requirements create significant barriers to voting, as only passports are accepted (not driver's licenses), and 50% of Americans lack passports while 9% lack required identification entirely; this disproportionately affects marginalized groups and raises concerns about voter suppression.

Republican SCRAMBLES After Getting Taught A Lesson On Trump's Bill At Senate HearingAdded:
If the Republicans are going to try to strip even more of our v voting rights away from us, you'd think that they could like at least know what's in the bills that they're passing to do so, but they don't. So, let's talk now about GOP Senator John Cornin, who asked Dick Durban how it was that uh Durban was claiming the SAVE Act was going to disenfranchise voters. And uh unfortunately for Cornin, Dick Durban had a pretty good response.
>> So, I don't understand how it could disenfranchise millions of Americans.
and maybe he would explain.
>> I'm happy to I thank you for that question because I think all of us should be aware of the fact of what is required by the this act when it comes to registering to vote. You have to present identification. Correct. But your driver driver's license which most people use in in the course of business every single day is not acceptable. What is acceptable is a passport.
50% of Americans do not have a passport.
Those who want to obtain it so they can vote will pay $186 and wait three or four weeks for that to happen. Secondly, you can use a birth certificate, but then any person who has changed their their name as a result of a marriage or a hyphenate relationship has to find not only their birth certificate, but some correction of it to prove that they're eligible register to vote. It's estimated that 9% of the voters in America do not have the identification required by this bill.
Those are all matters that could be addressed by amendments to the bill itself if we get on the bill. Correct.
Yeah. And he responded like when was the last time we amended a bill? Because of course if they did then it would have to go back to the house and everything. And by the way uh in a serious legislature that seriously cared about this. Yeah.
some of those issues could be fixed in the amendment process. But I want you to think, is this a serious legislature when John Cornin didn't know any of what Dick Durban told him? And I just want to make sure that you know those concerns have been publicly discussed for months at this point. This is not new. Dick Durban didn't come up with it on Wednesday. That's the conversation about the Save Act. And John Cornin had no idea. Now, maybe one of the reasons he had no idea was because there was apparently no chance it was going to pass the Senate. So, why even read the bill, but now it's slightly more likely to pass in the Senate because he has signed on to it. In fact, he even wrote this op-ed why the Save Act matters more than the filibuster. And I'll get around to reading that op-ed when he gets around to reading the bill he writes opeds about. How about that? Get up.
>> It's important that you know that John Cornin has for a very long time been dead set. We need the filibuster. Okay?
Nothing should ever pass in the Senate.
The filibuster is sacred. And then he realized, oh, I need Trump to help me in Texas in the Senate primary. And Trump has already said, he's blackmailed us.
Uh, get rid of the filibuster and I'll endorse you. So John uh Cornin's doing that. That oped is absolute bull crap.
He doesn't mean anything he says in it.
He doesn't believe anything about the Save Act or about the filibuster. This is just for his career. He is willing to screw over millions of people disproportionately women because he thinks it give gives him a slightly higher chance of maintaining his position in the Senate. That's this entire story here. What do you think, Brad?
>> Right. The when my question is what's your problem, Trump? What's your problem? Cuz I think you want American to think the problem is a lot of people are voting who shouldn't be voting. And I think the actual problem that you're trying to solve is if we let everyone who can vote vote, then they won't vote for you.
That's why he's talking about the Save Act and the filibuster. Like they they have to do with essentially stopping or allowing the will of the people to happen.
>> Like that's what we're talking about here. And to say, "Oh, we can fix that all with amendments." It's like a math problem.
All this he Trump has added up a bunch of stuff.
If you subtract If you add amendments to subtract that, the answer is going to be zero. The bill will disappear. The things you have a problem with in the Save Act, John Cornin, that's the Save Act.
Like the the thing that uh was called out to him by Dick Durban.
>> Yeah. Those are the problems with the Save Act. And incidentally, that is the totality of the Save Act. Save a few more randomass culture war issues they've tacked on to get support from psychopaths.
>> Exactly. Wait, are you implying that stopping trans surgeries is not an integral part of voter fraud? Like, what's happening?
>> It's just that. And if I asked people to prioritize it reasonably, this for Republicans, this wouldn't be a thing.
And also, this is Trump's doing this because he wants to be president a third time.
