Congressman says GOP needs 'warriors' after Massie loses primary

[00:00:00]Congressman, now that your colleague in the Midwest, Thomas Massie, is out effectively, what do you hope to see from Ed Galvin, also a former veteran as well, combat veteran, as this race progresses?

[00:00:14]I'm looking for a couple of things. One, I'm looking for a doer. And I know this in Ed is a Navy SEAL. He's coming into this mission focused. This is the kind of stuff we can deliver. For the last 18 months, we've been aiming to deliver wins for Americans. Largest tax cut in American history. We've got some of the best border security, but also crime and safety right here in the US. These are led by military members on both sides of the aisle. I'm proud that I get to serve in Iowa, but I'm also trying to bring Iowa's best practices to our nation's capital in the same way I did as a military commander. I want warriors who are going to be with us in this fight to help serve this country and make it more than politics, more than just about them, but remember their names on this wall for the sacrifice those individuals gave. That's who we should be honoring, not just on Memorial Day weekend, but our service in the law.

[00:00:58]>> The sacrifices they gave as the president says for key America first priorities. I know you're running unopposed, but you know, your your Democratic opponent is facing new scrutiny over resurfaced comments on 9/11, on witchcraft, and what she called was being uncomfortable with whiteness. What do those comments tell voters about the contrast that they're going to be facing in Iowa in this race?

[00:01:25]Well, Jenna, I think this is a perfect example of, you know, we have always put Iowans first. And so, I'm in one of the most competitive districts in the country, and that's a good thing. It means that I go out there and I work hard across all 21 counties, and I'm hearing from Iowans. The good news is, we've been able to take some of their ideas and bring them straight to the nation's capital to put in the law.

[00:01:44]Challengingly, we're also facing an opponent here who, you know, has chosen to divide people, has made things not only about race, faith, ostracizing folks. That's not where we need to be as a country. That's not who I am as a dad, as a commander, as a congressman for Iowa. We want to be working on solutions that truly drive our nation forward so it can be that beacon, that shining city on the hill, a respectable reflection of the sacrifices gone before us. So, I'm proud of our service. We're going to keep fighting for Iowans and I think our opponent's going to have to stand on our record here of division and just being visceral um as a way to try and win I guess whatever she thinks is going to get her across the finish line. I feel very confident we're going to keep the majority and we're going to keep the seat here in Iowa.
