In democratic governance, elected officials should seek public mandate through elections before implementing significant tax changes, and policies that disproportionately punish successful entrepreneurs while rewarding those who pay taxes without taking risks can discourage economic growth and entrepreneurship.

‘Liars’: Joyce pushes Albanese to call early electionAñadido:
And straight away, by the way, in question time today, exactly that dishonest spin I showed you being made in front of your eyes. The prime minister was accused correctly of bringing in tax hits that he'd lied about and had no mandate for. And he claimed the prime minister falsely, oh, the liberals are just uh against that tiny tax offset that has slipped into that legislation this morning. I mean, more lies. Why the prime minister hasn't got the guts to take his toxic taxes to an election.
>> The leader of the opposition was triggered when I was talking about reducing income tax.
>> Immediately you speak about reducing taxes and they get upset.
>> I was joined a short while ago by our regular Thursday commentator, One Nation MP Barnaby Joyce, the former deputy prime minister. Barnaby Joyce, great to see you again. Matt Canavan says the government should call an election to get a mandate for these taxes. Angus Taylor dared the prime minister today to get the guts to call it two. What do you say? I'd like them to call an election just quietly because I think One Nation would do exceedingly well. Uh to be honest, tactically I don't think it's a good idea. Um obviously to get a mandate from the the people. Yeah, certainly. I don't think the Australian people are going to be very happy with the Labor Party right now. I think they would really serve it to them. And of course, the Labour Party are not going to call an election because I'd have to call on the premise that they're liars. They're liars. Liars. They lie.
>> They don't tell the truth. And we've seen that in the things that they've said before the election, which they completely um dis, you know, dispense with after the election. One of the things they dispense with is what's the truth? And even today, other questions that I've asked it just this this opaque evasiveness when they know the answers they just don't want to tell you.
Yes. You ask them to nominate to the nearest $5 billion how much of their taxpayers money is being splashed around on wind farm contracts >> as the investment scheme.
>> They wouldn't tell you.
>> Yeah.
>> Oh my gosh, mate. Oh my god.
>> I don't think for one second they know.
Listen, I >> No, it's interesting. I was reading this amazing indictment of the British Labor government by former Labour Prime Minister there, Tony Blair, and it's like it could be applied word for word to Australia. For instance, he says it's a sign of a society that's not serious if uh a country spends more on disability welfare than it does on defense. And I looked at the figures. In fact, way more than 50% more is spent in Australia on disability services than on defense. What does that tell you?
>> It means that you're being ripped off.
That's what it means. A person on the NDIS should have the capacity to look at another taxpayer who goes to work and say, "My affliction uh justifies you going to work for me and I'll stay at home and you work for me." And if you don't believe that you'd get away with that, well, maybe you shouldn't be on the NDIS. We have this ridiculous scenario of over 3/4 of a million people are now on the NDIS and it's heading towards a million and the average cost is in excess of $65,000 per person. So when you look at a person on the NDIS and you think I'm going to work, how long do I have to work for to pay for that person's $65,000? Now, if you're a par paraplegic, quadriplegic, schizophrenic, I get that. But there are a lot of other afflictions which I would say are minor walking sticks. And in life, nobody's perfect. You got to pick yourself up and do the best job you can.
And we just cannot go on borrowing money to pay for people to stay at home because of an ailment. Everybody's got an ailment, but it's got to be a major ailment before it justifies everybody else going to work to pay for you. Look, we could uh be this generous if only we had a system that really encouraged entrepreneurship, new business, get up and go, lots of tax incentives like that, you know, low taxes, just make it, you know, it is over. And I'm just wondering about what's happened there.
Look, uh, I have to say on on that point and these crazy taxes on capital gains, opposition leader Angus Taylor or the extra taxes rather, some taxes of course. Okay. Uh, opposition leader Angus Taylor, I think Barnaby has found some real mojo on this issue. I thought he summed up the case against the government very well today by trying to get a debate on this. Have a listen.
This house condemns the Albanesei Labor government for one, arrogantly misleading Australians about the government's plans for toxic taxes.
Two, not having the courage to take their toxic taxes to the Australian people at an election.
>> Three, taxing Australians more than any other Australian government in history.
four, betraying the hardest working Australians who are willing to take risks and who have made the biggest sacrifices and five hurting Australians without any understanding of who will be punished and to what extent Australians will be worse off.
>> Babby, I actually like that Angus Taylor that Angus Taylor and not the one that was a you know word salad machine before. Yeah, that was a lot more decisive and yeah, you know, I mark him up on that. Unfortunately, after that, he sat down, which you're not supposed to do. You're supposed to continue your speech. When you sit down, that's the end of your speech. And your speech ended with his question. But, um, but put that aside. Uh, I think that they're, the Labour Party have provided a lot of material. They're creating a nation where if you're successful, they punish you, and if you pay it up against the wall, um, you're in a better position. People who go into business, they buy capital assets with after tax money. They could spend it if they wish, but they are prudent and they build up a business which builds up the entrepreneurial flare and the economy of Australia. It works our balance sheets.
It makes our nation a stronger place.
But if you say to people who are starting off, if you're successful, we're going to tax you. And if you fail, like many small businesses do, tough luck because it makes it a very obvious choice as to what you should do. And this they they seem to think that um return on capital is like salary and wages. It's not salary and wages doesn't come with a massive risk of putting your neck out in the line with money you've saved in the hope that your business that you set up will get ahead. And uh that's what the Labor Party's done. And they say, "Oh, there's rollover relief."
Yeah, you got to stay in business for 15 years and arrive at the age of 55 and uh have a turnover of less than $2 million and net assets of less than $6 million and on and on it goes. And I suppose if you don't tick those boxes, you don't get it. Um and um you know what what we want is to encourage people to take the risk like they do in Singapore and the United States and New Zealand because that's how you grow the strategic asset base of your nation of which one of the greatest components is the entrepreneurial flare of those inclined to take the risk.
>> Well, so true. I mean can you imagine if everyone was on a salary who'd actually create those those businesses in the first place? I mean that's the thing.
who would actually be employing apart from government all these people and that's the thing that the government doesn't seem to get in his head salary and investment in uh capital they are not the same but anyway uh there you go Barnaby Joyce thank you so much indeed for your time >> absolute pleasure
