This analysis masterfully strips away anthropomorphic bias to reveal how Queen Coral’s brutality is a logical byproduct of draconic evolutionary pressure. It effectively challenges the viewer to judge fantasy characters by their own biological imperatives rather than human moral standards.

The Truth About Queen CoralAdded:
Fantasy series often struggle to make dragons speak and act like dragons.
Wings of Fire is no exception. For the dragons of Wings of Fire, most of them speak and act like humans would instead of the giant apex predators that they are. Queen Coral is one of the only dragons in Ws of Fire that acts closer to how a dragon would. She's quick to violence, respects order, and has a strong maternal instinct. Two clear examples of her violence were the multiple times she had her guards killed for failing to protect her eggs. The first time, King Gil tried to stop her, telling Queen Coral, "It wasn't Abalone's fault." To which she responded, "Doesn't matter. I sent word to have him and Snapper both executed."
To Coral, "Logic doesn't matter, only her draconic instinct for justice." The second time she personally tortured and executed her guard, Tortoise. To quote directly from the lost heir, Queen Coral had already yanked out each of's teeth one by one. They rose through the water, tiny and white, toward the roof. Now Coral had her claws stabbed in tortoise's underbelly. Clouds of blood filled the water, nearly hiding the queen and tortoise in a red haze.
While of course humans are capable of great violence, the sheer savagery of Queen Coral seemed a lot more dragon than human.
>> Queen Coral also has a strong sense of order that it's just the way things are.
There's nobles and there's lowerborn sea wings. Only females from the royal family can rule and it's perfectly normal for your daughter to one day challenge you for the throne and potentially kill you for it. Queen Coral even respected her daughter Orca, who killed countless numbers of her daughters through the Animus Touch statue. She felt saddened to have to destroy the statue Orca made, despite the damage it had done. Queen Coral's sense of order is part of what makes her much more dragonlike than humanlike.
It's very rare in human cultures for leadership to be passed down through ritual combat, especially your own daughter. But in Wings of Fire, it's perfectly normal. What also makes Queen Coral particularly dragonlike is that even knowing that one of your daughters may one day challenge you for the throne and even kill you, she still loves her daughters greatly. Her maternal instincts demand that her daughters be strong, even strong enough to kill you.
A human-like dragon might fear the return of tsunami as I challenge her to her throne, but instead she showers her with love. At the same time, because her sense of order says only females can rule, she pushes her sons to the side, mostly to be forgotten. Because Orca's statue had kept killing her daughters before they were even born from their eggs, it was perfectly logical for Queen Coral to have as many children as possible so she could have female heirs.
So, she had an astonishing 32 sons since only three out of her 16 daughters survived. Most humans would have given up having children, having lost so many daughters. But not a dragon, not Queen Coral. And that's it. If you agree or disagree about Queen Coral, let me know in the comments below. And also, if you think of another example of a dragon who actually acts like a dragon, let me know. See you in the next video.
