Weather forecasters assess severe weather risks by analyzing storm movement patterns, rainfall accumulation, and atmospheric conditions to issue appropriate warnings. In this forecast, meteorologists track a complex of showers and storms moving from southwest to northeast Kansas, predicting 0.5-4 inches of rain with a moderate excessive rainfall risk and flood watch. The enhanced severe weather risk (3 out of 5) indicates potential hazards including quarter-sized hail, winds up to 70 mph, and brief tornadoes, requiring public awareness and preparedness for flash flooding.

Severe Storm & Flooding Risk Tonight Into Sunday
Added:Our big concern for this weekend is the severe storm and flooding risk that we have tonight into tomorrow, and that's why we have a first alert weather day in place for that period of time. But currently from our Prairie Bank C note in Resort live storm tracker, we are seeing a few isolated showers and storms moving southeast across the area right now, as well as some dense cloud cover as well. As we track out those showers and storms, they're expected to continue to shift off to the southeast. And as we go into our afternoon and an evening, we will see a complex of showers and storms shift from southwest Kansas into northeast Kansas, making their way by midnight to around north central Kansas and areas like Concordia and Salina and Abilene and Clay Center. And that complex of storms will continue moving off to the east as we go into the morning hours of tomorrow morning, bringing along with it a lot of rain and possibly some severe weather as well.
So, that's something we are going to be watching over the next day or so. And as a result, we do have an enhanced a three out of five risk for severe weather in place for today for hail the size of a quarter, potentially damaging winds up to uh 70 mph and embedded brief and weak tornadoes will be possible. And then we have the slight risk south of I-70 as well for similar hazards besides the lower tornado threat tomorrow as well.
Throughout this next 24 to 48 hours, we could see anywhere from around a half an inch to upwards of 4 inches of rain across the area with a quarter or of greater rain totals near I-70 and north, potentially getting a 3 to 4 inches of rain. And that's why we have excessive rainfall risk in place, moderate uh three out of four excessive rainfall risk at that for today and tomorrow for parts of northeast Kansas and a flood watch that will last until around 1:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. So, that's something we're going to be watching because we're expecting a lot of rain.
So, that may pose flash flooding hazards where you need to turn around and not drown. But, currently from our Prairie Band Casino and Resort live storm tracker once again seeing those showers shift shifting off to the southeast. You can see that cloud cover from our Midland Empire skycam in Concordia and from our Midland Empire skycam out in Manhattan. Your current temperatures sit in the 60s and 70s right now with our dew points in the 60s. So, a little mild and humid right now to start your day with our current wind speeds light and variable between around calm to around 5 to 7 mph. Today's forecast I am forecasting it to be in the 70s and 80s with those partly cloudy skies stormy tonight in the 60s and 70s and as we go into tomorrow 70s and 80s once again with storms early and potentially in the evening as well. Monday we will be cloudy in the 70s. Here's a look at your 8-day forecast. We do have that first alert weather day in place and then we stay active going towards the end of the week.
