Trial of Karmelo Anthony: Jury selection continues

[00:00:00]Jury selection continues in the Carmelo Anthony trial. He is the 19-year-old accused of fatally stabbing Austin Metcalfe at a Frisco ISD track meet last year. Our Trevor Sahaky is live outside the courthouse this morning with more on the case that has captured national attention. So Trevor, what have we learned so far?

[00:00:20]>> Well Karen, they're on lunch break right now, but before that the prosecutors were getting their chance to question the jury. Each side has a little under two hours to do so. And they have to cut down the prospective jury members from about 250 down to 12. Now this case revolves around a confrontation between Carmelo Anthony and Austin Metcalfe at a Frisco ISD track meet in April of last year. Authorities say Anthony stabbed Metcalfe once in the heart. Anthony and his attorney say it was self-defense.

[00:00:48]Over the last two hours or so prosecutors asked prospective jurors about their knowledge of the case, if media coverage could affect their judgment, and whether they could be unbiased. Carmelo Anthony was in court and watched the proceedings quietly.

[00:00:59]Some of the prospective jurors said they couldn't do the job for various religious reasons, while others brought up race. Now after this lunch break is over, we do expect the defense will get their turn to question witnesses or prospective jurors rather. Then tomorrow we do expect those opening statements to begin.
