[00:00:07]Let me explain. Specifically how they use doublethink, newspeak, and their manipulation of history. Let's start with the word doublethink. And as I read Orwell's definition of this word, I will put some examples of how the Republican Party uses doublethink on the screen.

[00:00:21]Doublethink means the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously and accepting both of them. To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them. To forget any fact that has become inconvenient, to deny the existence of objective reality, and all the while to take account of the reality which one denies.

As for newspeak, the purpose of newspeak was not only to provide a medium of expression for the worldview and mental habits proper to the devotees of the party, but to make all other modes of thought impossible. In other words, it was designed not to extend, but to diminish the range of thought.

[00:01:04]And this purpose was indirectly assisted by cutting the choice of words down to a minimum. And then we have his most famous quote throughout the book. Who controls the past controls the future.

The first reason is that the party member, like the proletarian, tolerates present-day conditions partly because he has no standards of comparison. But by far the more important reason for the readjustment of the past is the need to safeguard the infallibility of the party." And the comparisons between the party in 1984 that George Orwell warns us about and the current Republican Party or simply the MAGA movement goes far deeper than what I have talked about in this video.
