In international diplomacy, smaller nations often serve as mere channels or 'postmen' for major powers rather than genuine mediators, as demonstrated by Pakistan's role in Iran-US negotiations where it merely delivers messages without actual influence over outcomes, despite its strategic positioning between the two countries.

Iran Slams Pakistan Mediation | “No Real Role” Claim | US-Iran Talks Crisis Deepens |Added:
Mr. Kant for bringing us those details to that new story brought to us by Manoj Gupta. Let's quickly take it forward and a lot more to discuss with our esteemed guests who are joined in by Ambassador Ashok Sajjanhar, former diplomat, also joined in by retired Major General Sanjay Meshtan, who's also a defense expert. Many thanks to you gentlemen for joining in. Ambassador, if I could quickly bring you in on the aspect this new story brought to us by Manoj Gupta where Iranian media reports now almost feel betrayed betrayed by the role that Pakistan is currently playing.
Um do you think that this is also a result of Pakistan's own uh say tilt towards Washington, their own economic needs to appease the White House at the moment that inadvertently this had to happen?
Yeah, thank you very much Akansha. Thank you very much Preetween for having me on the show. Yes, uh you're right. You know, I think we have uh known not today, not for the last 5 years, but for a long long time that uh Pakistan uh you know, so to say it runs with the hair and it hunts with the hounds. So, you know, it is uh really wants to please everyone that it is uh dealing with and particularly that is true as far as the United States is concerned. And the fact that Asim Munir has been given such a high profile by the US President whether you uh you know, it was the luncheon by in in the White House or his uh you know, he never gets tired of addressing him as my favorite field marshal. And uh you know, whether it is it was in Sharm el-Sheikh when the board of peace was there. You know, the glee on his face when Shahbaz Sharif told him that Asim Munir was sitting in the audience etc. or many other places. So, uh the uh Pakistanis definitely don't want to let go of this leverage as far as the United States are concerned and that's why they've been you know, dangling all these uh carrots also of the uh cryptocurrency, also of the critical minerals etc. So, I think uh the tilt towards the United States is very well known. But the second point I think uh Akansha is that in my view Pakistan is not really acting as an active mediator in the sense you know, it is really being used as a postman, you know, to deliver messages.
What about the channel broker? National broker. Yes, absolutely. Absolutely. I think that is the better way of putting it that he's they're just going sort of you know, from there was there been some memes also on this uh subject as to how Shahbaz Sharif is shuttling between the two sides. And they really do not have much of a role to play. Now, if the Iranians think we have not received a response from the United States, that is not because Pakistan can get a response out of the United States. United States will act when it thinks it is time for it to act. So, I think they are trying to magnify in fact the role of Pakistan and of Asim Munir. But otherwise the role is in my view very limited. You know, I'm sure Preetween would want to take it up with Major General Meshtan also and perhaps if I could also add into this uh
