Marine Veteran Running in Blue State: “We’ve Shocked the Whole System”

[00:00:00]Well, I tell you, the Marine Corps will take young men who are willing to be transformed into warriors. And what I learned in the Corps, my time when I served under, believe it or not, President Ronald Reagan, was discipline, courage, confidence, and then how to lead, how to lead and do what's right in the face of opposition, and even when people say it can't be done.

[00:00:22]Uh you have plenty of opposition that you're facing now. You're a a Republican running this energetic campaign in a blue state. What has surprised you most about some of the far-left reaction to your candidacy?

[00:00:35]Well, you know what? They have come out of nowhere. They cannot uh they can't put the lasso on me. Neither can some of the uh establishment Republicans. So, I'm the outsider who's not a politician.

[00:00:49]Everything I've said I was going to do, I've done. And I've called it things that people did not think would ever happen. For instance, you know, this first quarter financials just came out for campaign fundraising, and we out-raised the other Republican candidates on the ballot. And then, we broke a record. We out-raised the Democratic candidates.

[00:01:13]And uh that's Michael Bennet and Phil Weiser, uh the one who has been suing President Trump. I think he's to the girl I said he's sued him 65 times, which all he's doing is spending taxpayer money. Yeah. Uh yeah, so we've shocked the whole system.

[00:01:30]>> Well, I I checked on those numbers. You aren't raising money from lobbyists, special interests, corporate interests that have uh contracts or business before state government. You seem to be raising a lot of small-dollar donations from people of faith. Uh what's the what's the magic formula here for that type of success?

[00:01:49]>> Thanks, Matt. We've raised over $2.2 million.

[00:01:54]The average gift is about 88 bucks.

[00:01:58]And if there's any magic to it, it's the people are ready for somebody who's not a politician cuz that's the only option.

[00:02:05]You continue to get what you've got, which is fraud, waste, overspending, bloated budget, government. It's sad, not safe anymore. It It's not affordable. Or you go with the guy who's got real-world experience of negotiating tough things in out of the war places and who believes in law enforcement, freedom, and uh family. We're going to get it done, and we're doing it now. Jared Polis is the current governor. What do you think is the biggest mistake he's made in office?

[00:02:39]Uh running and becoming governor.

[00:02:42]>> [laughter] >> Well, how about a policy position you disagree with?

[00:02:46]Well, he's put his own pet projects before people who have to pay the bill for it. And he is he is loaded up our poor state to make us fund the things that he wants and extremist one. I Man, I'll give you a great example. Parks and Wildlife, which is I mean, it's Colorado, God's country. He has put people on commissions and boards that have never hunted or fished, but they want to protect their furry little friends. They have no understanding about conservation. They just want to conserve and I'm telling you, that's a problem here, but he's done it everywhere. He's allowed homelessness to expand. We're number one in the country for car thefts.

[00:03:35]Car theft, what is that? So, I just tell you, it's time for a real leader to step in who cares about the people, and it just takes a real person who's not a professional politician to do it, Matt.

[00:03:50]You have a number of new arrivals every single day in Colorado that come from California. And presumably they are escaping really high taxes or regulatory burdens they don't like. They want to get a little elbow room. How do you tell people not to bring the politics they're leaving to the place they're arriving?

[00:04:11]Well, I can appreciate people fleeing a state that's upside down. We just tell them, don't bring that weird ideology here. Don't force that weirdness on our children. You become who we are. We're a gritty people, full of grace, hard working, love family, love faith, love America. So you come here, we're about common sense. So you need to become what we are, not what the state has become under a bad leadership.
