This video demonstrates how meteorologists interpret weather radar and forecasts to communicate precipitation patterns and safety implications. The forecast shows light showers persisting through the evening with isolated heavy downpours, creating slick roadways that require cautious driving. Temperatures remain in the low 60s, and while no flooding is currently occurring, a marginal flood risk exists for tomorrow afternoon. The forecast predicts rain will continue through the week with isolated showers expected Saturday and Sunday, with total accumulations of 1-2 inches. Drivers should allow extra travel time and maintain safe distances between vehicles due to wet road conditions.

Weather Impact Alert update: Rain could make a mess of the drive home today, and more is on the wayAdded:
Good afternoon. I'm K1 meteorologist Chris Ramirez. We are still tracking some moderate rain and some light showers moving in across Houston. Right now, we're not seeing any flooding issues, but we are seeing some slick roadways across town. So, if you are heading home for your evening commute, you're going to be still dealing with that rain potential uh for the rest of this evening. So, you might want to just take it easy on the roadways as well as give enough space between yourselves and the cars in front of you because we are uh seeing some issues on the roadways in terms of slick conditions, but we're not necessarily seeing uh flooding conditions here across southeast Texas.
Temperatures are in the low 60s. This is a look out from the Galleria area. We're seeing those light showers still falling in and across town. As we take a look closer at our radar, we are expecting uh some of these downpours to be a little bit heavy at times, especially in portions of uh where you see the yellow color. So, there's some isolated heavy downpours in some locations, but those heavy downpours are just really not lasting all that long. But, we are having this consistent uh light showers that's just really going to stay in the picture at least through this evening.
So, as we take a look across uh southeast Texas, I think Leak City right now uh about to look at seeing a pretty heavy shower that's now about to cross 45 just in between Lake City and Galveastston. Uh but for the most part, we're not looking at any severe weather.
We're not looking at any gusty winds.
We're just looking on those slick roadways, which is the reason why we've issued uh that weather impact alert for today because of course we have uh the evening commute heading home, which we could see some issues in terms of uh maybe some traffic conditions. And of course, we'll have more on that uh later on today on the KU11 News at 4 p.m. But as we look at our future track uh forecast as we head into the rest of our evening, we're going to continue to see these showers and downpours persist at least through the 7 to 8:00 hours and then eventually by 900 p.m. we're going to see a break in the rain and things are going to be ultimately more quiet for the overnight conditions. So, uh a quiet night. might see some lingering light showers in the picture, but we're going to start off tomorrow morning uh pretty quiet as well. Not as uh rainy as what we saw today. However, tomorrow afternoon is when we will have the possibility for more downpours to move through southeast Texas. And these could be a bit heavy at times, especially for tomorrow afternoon as well. So, if we get the clearing of the skies and that peak of sunshine as we're dealing with this unstable atmosphere, we very well could see some of these storms and these downpours become a bit stronger than what we're seeing today, especially for tomorrow afternoon. So, we are looking at that pretty closely, but I think for the most part, we're going to start off mostly quiet across the area for Tuesday morning. And then eventually by 8:00 tomorrow evening, [clears throat] the rain is going to be out of the picture.
We're going to be mostly quiet, but we're just going to persist to see this daily rain chance at least through the rest of our week uh into our weekend.
So, uh the Storm Prediction Center, of course, including a large section of uh southeast Texas under a marginal risk for flooding. Um and we're not really just seeing that today. We're just mostly seeing those light showers. So, rain rates have not been as high as what we saw last weekend when we saw that flooding on those roadways, especially along I 10. But the rain rates have really allowed that water to drain off and just really not seeing any flooding issues here across southeast Texas, especially as the rain has been ultimately light. However, tomorrow we're still going to be under that flood risk for uh tomorrow afternoon, especially as we head into the afternoon hours. So marginal risk, which does include Houston, Cleveland, Galveston, and areas east of the Houston area. But we are just going to persist to remain rather just wet and unsettled at least through each and every day through the weekend. So as we head into Saturday and Sunday, uh the likelihood that rain is not going to be more is not going to be as widespread, but we very well could see some of those showers moving in that very well could bring uh some gloomy conditions as well as a cloudy skies as as well as those isolated showers through the next few days. So, as we look at that forecast rain model of the total rain accumulations that we're expecting to see, this is looking a bit better than what we've seen a couple of days ago when we saw that, you know, we saw that we could potentially get two to three inches of rain. But now, it's very well likely that as we look at the rain accumulations through Saturday, we might even get maybe between one to two inches of rain. And this is actually pretty good compared to what we've seen. But if we do get those isolated areas that range between 2 to three inches, we could start seeing those issues on roadways. But the good news is is that after tomorrow is the rain chances looking are going to be looking more isolated uh heading into tomorrow as well. So as we uh take a look at your 7-day forecast, we are expecting it to remain warmer as well going into the next several days. So definitely uh be on the lookout for those muggy conditions to once again return to the Houston area through the end of the work week. So rain chances more so isolated through Thursday and Friday. we do have is the still that isolated rain threat for Saturday and Sunday, but it's not going to be as widespread. So, definitely just keep an umbrella on you for the next seven days because we very well could see additional downpours that could bring just wet roadways as well as wet conditions. So, just have it in the back of your mind that you might want to give yourself enough time heading to your destination, especially for this evening and even for the next few days.
So, if you're just now joining me on KOU1 Plus, uh we're still tracking those wet conditions and rainy conditions here across the Houston area. Uh we are looking at the Galleria area right now.
You really can't see the downtown skyline off in the distance because you just had that light rain that's just really causing the visibility issues in terms of looking uh off in the distance.
But those temperatures are a little bit cool today. We're seeing those temps in the 60s. But of course, uh roadways are slick out there. So definitely be extra cautious if you are driving home this evening because we're going to continue to see uh this rain persist at least through nine o'clock, maybe even 10 pm tonight, especially this evening. We did have some moderate downpours within the past few minutes, but I think for the most part, the rain is just sticking to a very light rain that's allowing things to drain off. So we're not looking at any uh issues in terms of flooding. But there is some areas where you see those yellow colors, especially out in the Spring area, even Bush Airport. But that's moving off towards the east. It's mostly as you see the lighter green colors is really indication of more light rain that's currently falling in and across our area. So, I'm going to go ahead and look at our rain accumulations that we've seen for the past 12 hours.
It's not looking too impressive and it's good because it's not really giving any stress to all of our local waterways here across Harris County and all the BA systems, but we are expecting uh it to be still rather just slick and wet. As we take a look at what we've seen for the past 12 hours, rain has really just persisted between a half an inch to even an inch of rain in some locations and that's good for us and that's really able to allow those things the water to drain off especially as we head into uh the evening. So once again, this is all a part of a coastal low that's currently situated across the coastal areas and mostly we're seeing more of the heavier showers off towards the east of us towards Lake Charles, even towards the Bowmont area. But for us, we're seeing mostly uh just that light rain that's going to persist at least through the next few hours, especially as we head into the 9:00 hour. But we are definitely going to continue to see those conditions remain mostly just wet and slick out there. So, be extra cautious if you are driving home this evening or later on tonight, especially as we head into this uh next few hours.
So again, once again, our 7-day forecast, highs warming up into the 80s, lows in the 60s and 70s. Rain chances, still a scattered rain and downpour possible for Wednesday afternoon. So, we are going to see less rain through uh Thursday and Friday, but of course, we are expecting it to be a little bit more quiet going into this weekend, especially as that daily rain chance will once again return for Saturday and Sunday. And as always, we are keeping you updated on the latest weather conditions here across the Houston area.
Make sure to tune in little under an hour on the KU11 News at 4 PM with for the latest news and weather headlines.
I'm meteorologist Chris Miris. a good and safe rest of your evening.
