This report exposes the blatant erosion of judicial independence when political leverage is weaponized to bypass legal accountability. It serves as a grim reminder that the rule of law is compromised when power meddles with the scales of justice.

Breaking; Joe Sibanyoni Arrested Again | Prominent MP InvolvedAñadido:
The case was already explosive. A powerful taxi boss, millions of rand allegedly paid as protection fees, claims of extortion, money laundering allegations, a courtroom scandal involving a missing prosecutor, >> [music] >> and now a shocking new allegation is threatening to push this entire saga into even darker territory. Because according to reports, a well-known member of parliament allegedly contacted the complaint in the R2.2 million extortion case involving taxi boss Joe Ferrari Sefanyoni and allegedly tried to persuade him to drop the charges.
Welcome back to the channel. Indeed, losing one life is too many. One has to even go down to states to say we have improved. When one will say that is not because of the acting minister as he says he gave us last year he was not there.
He said it looks like there's a decline.
But I can tell you for free that we still have a long way to go. It's unfortunate that the general Masemola who who was the national co-commissioner in the South African Police Service services is suspended. But indeed, they tried as well, you know, through his efforts and other men and women in blue to make sure that this sketch of violence against fellow citizen is really arrested. You I mean, it's disappointing to say that in the Western Cape you still have people who have been killed daily there. You know, the statistics shows as well to say that the Western Cape and in fact the Eastern Cape has a really risen. You know, it's overtaken the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, which is a cause for concern and how how dangerous four provinces are still problematic. But for us as the Inkatha Freedom Party, I think the concern is that we need our citizen to to be safe.
You know, that's the priority number one is that we have to be safe and make sure that all the efforts, you know, which are being um uh uh uh strategized by South African Police Service to make sure that the society lives in peace.
But that alone, we need social cohesion.
You don't need only police to police human beings. You know, you need to balance this thing. Government this JNU has to do something about unemployment.
Because if you have to make sure that we are safe in this country, you need people to be employed.
>> South Africa is once again watching a criminal case spiral into political controversy, raising serious questions about intimidation, interference, and whether powerful people are trying to manipulate the justice system from behind the scenes. According to the allegations, the phone call allegedly happened on Tuesday evening. The complainant, who reportedly paid over R2.2 [music] million in so-called protection fees between 2022 and 2025, was allegedly contacted by a prominent politician. And what followed, if true, could become one of the most disturbing developments in this already controversial case. Reports claim the MP allegedly encouraged the complainant to withdraw the charges against Joe Ferrari Zavenoni [music] and his co-accused. Even more explosive, the complainant was allegedly [music] promised a handsome reward if he agreed to make the case disappear. [music] At this stage, these allegations remain unproven, but the political implications are enormous. Because if any politician attempted to influence a complainant in an active criminal matter, especially one involving extortion [music] and organized taxi violence allegations, it would strike directly at the credibility of South Africa's criminal Yeah, well, I'm I'm I'm pretty satisfied. Um of course, as I said earlier, uh, task as the police is to confiscate crime.
And and we must take the perpetrators to court.
And and we want to see the prosecution prosecuting cases.
Uh, decisions being made by the presiding officers in court.
And but when we saw that that whole value chain is being blocked, and and blocked by people with authority from within the same system, um, we are left with no choice but to unblock it.
So, what we really did last year was to try and unblock the chain.
And and we are confident that, um, what we have seen happening has to some degree has allowed, um, the the unblocking of the justice system.
Uh, not entirely. We're not running smooth as we're supposed to, but at least there's movements that's happening and that gives us comfort as law enforcement, because it is nothing as painful as having to engage with a victim of crime.
justice system. And critics are already asking, "Who exactly is trying to protect Joe Ferrari Sibanyoni?
Why would a politician allegedly involve themselves in a criminal case that should be handled entirely [music] by courts and prosecutors? And how deep does this network really go?" The controversy comes just [music] days after the dramatic collapse of Sibanyoni's court proceedings in Mpumalanga. [music] Many South Africans were left stunned when the case was struck off the roll after state prosecutor advocate Mchaliseni Thabethe failed to appear in court. The situation exploded into chaos. The magistrate described the prosecutor's conduct as unacceptable and unprofessional. [music] A warrant of arrest was authorized against the prosecutor. The courtroom erupted in celebration after the case was removed from the [music] roll. And suddenly critics began questioning whether something bigger was happening behind the scenes. Now, the National Prosecuting Authority itself appears to be pushing back hard. The NPA has reportedly filed for leave to appeal the magistrate's contempt ruling and arrest warrant against Mthatha. [music] The Prosecuting Authority says the matter remains a priority case and insists it will be re-enrolled. That response alone has fueled even more speculation. Because many observers believe the NPA is now trying to distance itself from what some are calling one of the most embarrassing courtroom collapses in recent memory. At the center of all this remains Joe Ferrari Sibusiso Ndaweni himself. The influential Mpumalanga taxi boss and his co-accused, Daniel Masilela, Philemon Siza, and Aubrey Sindane face serious allegations linked to extortion and money laundering. According to prosecutors the accused allegedly forced a businessman to pay millions in protection fees over several years.
These kinds of allegations are not minor. Taxi [music] industry violence and extortion networks have long been among South Africa's most feared criminal underworld issues. Entire communities, businesses, and transport routes have historically been terrorized by intimidation and violence linked to taxi disputes. That is why many South Africans are watching this case so closely because critics believe this trial could expose far more than just one extortion operation. And now [music] the alleged involvement of political figures is making the situation even more explosive. Yes, we have been saying all along throughout the week that we are looking at options that we did to deal with this matter. And now today we have filed a leave of appeal to appeal this order, especially the part that related to the prosecutor where he was found or convicted in absentia and and therefore the warrant of arrest was then put against him. Therefore, we have now today moved to appeal that so that we then are saying that because we have now appealed automatically the order will be suspended until this matter is heard.
And then we have also asked from the magistrate returned reasons on why decisions were made. And those those decisions returned grounds are going to be used when we go to the next step because as we speak we have already appointed a senior counsel to look into the other order, especially the one that relates to striking the matter off the roll using section 342A of the criminal procedure act.
Therefore, what we have now moved to do that and then the next step will be after we've consulted with the senior counsel that we've appointed on how to deal with the the other part.
>> Yeah, and Reports circulating online claim the politician allegedly involved may be MK Party [music] MP David Skosana. But it is important to state clearly these claims remain allegations at this stage and have not been proven in court. Still, social media has erupted. Some South Africans are accusing political elites of protecting criminal networks. [music] Others believe the case is exposing dangerous links between politics, taxi power structures, and the justice system itself. Meanwhile, critics are also questioning the magistrate's controversial decision to strike the case from the roll. Some legal commentators argue that punishing the prosecutor while accused extortion suspects walked free.
Even temporarily, [music] created the appearance of a justice system in complete disarray. The NPA itself now appears deeply uncomfortable with how events unfolded. Reports suggest prosecutors [music] are demanding detailed reasons for the magistrate's decision. And if wrongdoing or misconduct is suspected, [music] calls are already growing for investigations into the handling of the case. But perhaps the most disturbing part of this entire story is the fear now surrounding the complainant. [music] Because according to reports, the businessman at the center of the case already fears for his safety. Now, >> [music] >> imagine being in that position. You accuse powerful individuals of extortion. Your case collapses dramatically in court. [music] A prosecutor disappears from proceedings. Political names begin surfacing. And then, according to allegations, a politician contacts you privately offering rewards to withdraw the charges. Whether proven true or not, the perception alone is devastating.
Because public trust in the criminal justice system is already dangerously low. Many South Africans already believe wealthy and politically connected individuals operate above the law. And cases like this only deepen that suspicion. Critics now say this saga is no longer just about extortion. It is about influence, power, fear, and [music] whether South Africa's institutions are strong enough to resist political pressure. The NPA insists the case will return to court, >> [music] >> but public confidence has clearly taken another hit. Because every new twist in this story seems to raise even more unanswered questions. Why was the prosecutor absent?
>> [music] >> Why did the courtroom situation collapse so dramatically? Why are allegations of political interference suddenly emerging? And most importantly, will the complainant still feel safe enough to [music] continue cooperating? Right now, South Africans are watching a case that many fear could become another symbol of a justice system under enormous pressure from powerful interests. [music] And if these allegations are ever proven true, it would mean that the battle over Joe Ferreira and Sam Mchunu's case was never only happening inside [music] the courtroom.
