When elected officials use their public platforms to promote hate speech or discriminatory views, they should face serious consequences including resignation, as such behavior undermines democratic representation and harms vulnerable communities.

"He Should Resign" — Republican Rep. Andy Ogles’ Homophobic Outrage追加:
A Republican member of Congress posted that homosexuality has no place in America. A sitting member of Congress, an elected representative, a man whose salary is paid by the American people, logged on to his official congressional account during Pride Month and posted homosexuality has no place in America.
This stupid piece of thought that was going to make him look cool. He thought people would cheer. He thought people would clap. He thought people would tell him how brave he was. Look at Andy Ogals. Such a tough guy. Such a fearless warrior picking a fight with Pride Month. Battling rainbow flags. Taking on the terrifying menace of gay people existing. Look at him charging heroically into battle against two dads taking their kid to soccer practice, squaring up against a lesbian couple buying mulch at Home Depot. Really putting that congressional office to work. What courage, what sacrifice, what an absolute embarrassment. A sitting member of Congress looked at all of the actual problems facing this country right now and decided his contribution to the national conversation was taking a swing at LGBTQ people during Pride Month. And the truly pathetic part is that he genuinely thought there was applause waiting for him on the other side. Honestly, why wouldn't he? Donald Trump spent the last decade telling people that they, them, those people were coming to steal something from them. coming for their jobs, their freedom, their children, their wives, their neighborhoods, their guns, their safety, their cats and their dogs.
Always something, always somebody, always another enemy, always another threat, always another reason to be angry. Then he told them they were right. Right to hate, right to resent, right to blame, right to point at complete strangers and convince themselves those people were the reason their lives weren't what they wanted them to be. And after 10 years of marinating people in fear, resentment, grievance, and [ __ ] you end up with people like Andy Ogles. People who think attacking gay people makes them look brave. People who think cruelty makes them look tough. People who think exclusion makes them look patriotic.
People who think being an [ __ ] is a personality. And Andy Ogles isn't new.
This stupid [ __ ] bigotry isn't new.
The hate isn't new. The homophobia isn't new. The resentment isn't new. None of it is new. People thought these things long before Donald Trump came along. The difference is that most of them understood there were supposed to be some shame attached to it. Some embarrassment, some social cost, some understanding that if he stood up in public and said something hateful, people would look at you like there was something wrong with you. Then Donald Trump came along and told people to stop being ashamed, stop whispering, stop hiding, stop keeping it to themselves.
He told them they were right. He told them they were justified. He told them they were the victims. He told them that they, them, those people were coming to take something away from them. They really and truly were. They were coming for their jobs, their freedom, their children, their wives, their neighborhoods, their guns, their safety, their cats, and their dogs. And now people say out loud what they used to keep to themselves. Now they post it from congressional accounts. Now they put it on bumper stickers. Now they scream it into microphones. That's the difference. Not because the hate is new, because the shame is gone. And that's because they need it. They need the fear. They need the bigotry. They need the xenophobia. They need the outrage.
They need the resentment. They need people screaming at each other because they have absolutely nothing else to offer. No solutions, no vision, no plan, no interest in governing. They don't want to govern. They want to rule. And ruling is a hell of a lot easier when everybody is distracted. Distracted by culture war [ __ ] distracted by manufactured outrage, distracted by whatever group they've decided to demonize this week. Because while everybody's busy fighting each other, nobody is paying attention to the fact that they are failing all of us. And this isn't even the first time Andy Ogles has done this. This piece of [ __ ] publicly declared that Muslims don't belong in American society and then doubled down when people called him out.
He doubled down because that's the game.
Keep escalating. Keep pushing. Keep finding the next target. Keep finding the next group. Keep finding the next people you're allowed to hate until one day you stop speaking in code and just come right out and say it, which is exactly what happened here. Then something absolutely beautiful happened in response. His ass got kicked. People were furious. People called it exactly what it was. Bigotry, homophobia, hatred, and suddenly the tweet disappeared. Gone. Funny how quickly people like this fold once the standing ovation they expected never arrives. And then came the excuse, "A staffer did it." Of course, a staffer, not Andy.
Never Andy. Some mysterious congressional phantom apparently seized control of his account, posted one of the most openly homophobic messages imaginable during Pride Month, detonated a national controversy, and received a reprimand. A reprimand? Sure. And I'm the starting shortstop for the Yankees.
Nobody believes that [ __ ] He posted it. He got dragged. He panicked. And then he ran away like a little [ __ ] and blamed somebody else because that's what cowards do. And honestly, he should resign. A man who publicly announces that millions of Americans have no place in this country has absolutely no business representing them in Congress.
None. Zero. This is reprehensible. There should be zero tolerance for this [ __ ] Zero. Because look at who he's talking about. that he's talking about mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, teachers, firefighters, nurses, scientists, veterans, coaches, neighbors, friends, co-workers, people who show up every day and help hold this country together.
People who raise families, people who build communities, people who contribute to this country every single day, people whose lives are not a political prop.
People whose existences are not up for debate. People who've been here all along. And people who will still be here long after Andy Ogles is forgotten. The little bit of progress we've managed to claw out of this country's long history of discrimination didn't happen by accident. People fought for it. People demanded it. People sacrificed for it.
And it still isn't enough. It still isn't finished. We have a metric [ __ ] ton of work to do because Donald Trump didn't invent hate. He just gave people permission to stop hiding it. He told them to lean into it. Lean into the resentment. Lean into the prejudice.
Lean into the cruelty. Wear it proudly.
Celebrate it. Make it your identity. And we've been living with the consequences ever since. enough. Every single time this garbage shows up that has to be called out every single time. No excuses, no normalization, no pretending. It's just politics. It's hate. It's bigotry. It's homophobia. It deserves to be shamed. It deserves to be condemned. It deserves to be defeated.
So yeah, [ __ ] Andy Ogles. [ __ ] homophobia. And just for good measure, [ __ ] Donald Trump, too. Happy Pride.
