The first four-wheeled micromouse to win the All Japan competition did so in 1988, but it would take another 22 years of the winning mouse growing and losing appendages before four-wheeled mice became the norm. With micromice still experimenting in six and eight-wheeled designs, omnidirectional movement, and even computer vision, who knows what the next paradigm shift will be.
