[00:00:00]Another internet influencer has now gone to Cuba and been faced with controversy.

[00:00:04]This time that influencer being Nick Shirley, who went to the country and put out a video essentially accusing the Cuban government of attempting to either hold him hostage or imprison him. This was met with backlash when people online said Nick Shirley isn't just a random citizen, but rather an arm of the government or a political agitator, and that other prominent countries also have rules regarding bringing in equipment to the country for a visit. Hassan also got into it with Nick Shirley going after his intelligence and Asmigold and others responded saying that it's more about the message being sent than if someone is a skilled orator. But there's a lot to get into so let's just jump in.

[00:00:41]Welcome to the internet versus Nick Shirley in Cuba. It starts when Nick Shirley tweets out this video with a caption, I was almost taken hostage in Cuba. I went to Cuba to document the humanitarian crisis and show life under 60 plus years of communism and now amid the US blockade. Once I landed, they seized all my cameras except my iPhone and had intelligence agents following me all day until my security notice and their spies tailing us to the hotel where they waited all night for us to come down. Under communism, there is no free speech and those who show the reality or speak up are imprisoned. Me going without a planned Cuban government guide nearly got me and my security taken hostage or in prison. The situation in Cuba is much worse than anyone knows. Attached to this 13minute video, we've chopped some of it down, but here is part of the video attached.

[00:01:24]All right, depending when this comes out or if it does, we are currently being told by Cuban intelligence here in Havana, Cuba. I came here, I've been wanting to make a video for so long about life in communism and showing people what communism is like in a place like Cuba, for instance. Came here to make this video. And when people think about communism, they typically just think about how communism is supposed to make everything equal, whether it be the amount of money someone makes or how food's distributed and how the markets are then controlled by the government.

[00:01:52]However, something that people do not think about, including myself, is how in communism, they do not have freedom of speech. They don't have freedom of press. And therefore, they want to make sure everything that is posted or out in the world about their country is filtered or censored. So, here in Cuba, as soon as I arrived in Cuba, I did everything that you need to do to come into Cuba as far as the documentation that it takes to come to Cuba. Right now, there's a big problem taking place here in Cuba, like the largest humanitarian crisis they've had in maybe 50 years. And uh there's no oil or gas due to the blockade after Trump and the United States took over and captured Maduro. So Venezuela is no longer supporting Cuba with any oil or gas. And that also affects um everything that they they have essentially between whether it be the food or from it being the lights and the power shortages here or just the gas alone. Here in Cuba, you hardly see any cars driving around because nobody can afford gas. For one liter of gas, it's $10. Okay, so where am I getting what am I getting from here? So I go out at the airports. They seize all of my cameras. They sees both my GoPros, my meta glasses. These are not my meta glasses. Uh all my microphones. However, the only thing they don't take is my iPhone camera.

[00:02:53]That's what I'm filming this on right now. They don't take my iPhone camera.

[00:02:56]And somehow they didn't get this microphone that was in the very very bottom of my backpack. So, we get out and we go start to make the video asking Cubans about life and communism, showing what's going on with the blockade, showing um kind of the the downfall of of uh of Cuba. Right now, we're currently planning our escape route out of Cuba right now. So, had to respond to take a message to get out of here somehow.

[00:03:23]Right now, you currently have surgeons doing operations with flashlights because there's no power inside of the hotel in in in the hospitals. Right now, I'm in the only hotel in Havana that has 247 electricity 247 because this is the only one that has that access. That's what the reason why I booked this hotel was because uh the their website was the only one that was operating 24/7.

[00:03:53]All the other ones weren't. So, that's what why I was able to get this hotel.

Selfie monkey replies, "To be fair, they know that you're not a real journalist, but a political agitator." Bam says, "So you had to abide by the rules in a country where you're not a citizen. Got it."

[00:04:14]Data Republican says, "Nick, you already are figuring this out the hard way. But as brave as you are, the one thing you can never do is go to a hostile foreign country, which is most of them. You have to assume that your international travel options are greatly limited from here on out. I went to China prefame and thought it was amazing until I got detained in a hotel room in China and discovered that countries without any concept of freedom can do whatever they like to you. We take freedoms for granted that we have basic civil liberties but the vast majority of the world simply does not recognize them. Thank god you are safe.

And this one down here is the hotel national the Cuba which Nick Shirley was allegedly staying at. And Joe Redden replies, I'll wait for them to prosecute Hassan [ __ ] first. Your favorite guy quotes Nick Shirley by saying Nick Shirley has to be an asset. First he tours Israel and does genocide propaganda while bombs are dropping. Then he gets boosted by Musk, Trump, and the rest of the regime to stoke ICE occupation of Minnesota. Now he's seemingly helping the US poise to invade Cuba. Daniel de Martino quotets Nick by saying, "There is a reason they let in Hassan [ __ ] and Greta Tunberg, but they arrested Nick Shirley. The left lies to you about Cuba." Mack quote the clip by saying, "Bro is currently the least literate person in Cuba." Hassan quote tweets Nick Shirley by saying, "I obviously don't believe this even a little bit, but it's ominous that this medically stupid [ __ ] is going to Cuba to manufacture propaganda for what I assume will be additional US intervention." And Nick Shirley replies, "Tell that to the twoar general who waited all night for me to come out of my hotel room to interrogate me. You wouldn't believe the truth if it was in front of you anyway. You went to Cuba and still think communism is a good idea. Are you medically stupid?" Destiny quotes Nick Shirley's clip by saying this cognitively impaired child being the face of the modern MAGA movement is honestly just perfect to be honest and Ronnie baby replies attacking a guy out in the field doing journalism from behind a keyboard is the epitome of how we have become and float replies can I come to your house and demand to see your kids and call it journalism Evan Loves Warf quoties Nick Shirley by saying they were 100% right to do this you are not a random citizen you are quite literally an agent of the US government also this story I'm sure is not accurate Out of spoken Samantha quotes Nick by saying, "It's kind of weird how communist Cuba made Nick Shirley a criminal for trying to expose the truth." And California is trying to pass a law to make Nick Shirley a criminal if he tries to expose the truth. Who are the dictators again? And Nick replies that California is ran by a bunch of people who support the same ideas that led to the downfall of Cuba.

He's a conservative talking head to push articles from politicians to retweets. Jay Thumbs says, "So this admin is just sending this idiot anywhere they're looking to focus on so they can use his journalism as a reason to take action. Is that the plan here?"

If you look at the tweet and the video that he posted, that's the room he's staying in. Pretty much, right? Red curtains. This is the hotel national website. You can pretty much not you can't stay in this hotel legally as a US citizen according to US law. Cubans welcome you here, but the US does not want you staying at this hotel or pretty much any other hotel all over Cuba. You just went in the lobby. Things are calm. There's no security. Everyone, this just seems like a normal day like any other. We're not even My guess is Shirley's not even here anymore. He just uh and there's really no evidence.

[00:11:02]There's no there's no reason to believe that he would be in any risk at all here in Cuba. Uh there's no US journalist or influencer in jail in Cuba. I've been here for six, seven years. I've never heard of that occurring. Um but surely would be at risk in the United States cuz he's violating US law. Uh chances are nothing will happen to him because he from what I know is very friendly with the current administration. if it somebody else were to stay here, uh, they might be in trouble. That's why I never stay here.

There's literally residential houses listed as daycarees for 15 children receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars of taxpayer money with no services provided. But you people want to say her dur's a right-wing conspiracy. It's greedy people cheating the system. There are no politics here. Ye then tweets out this clip with the caption. Hassan responds to Nick Shirley calling out his Cuba trip on Glenn Beck.

I don't even buy this a little bit, but it is ominous that this medically stupid, he called you a foul name, is going to Cuba to manufacture propaganda for what I assume will be additional US intervention. How do you respond to that?
