Are Our Minds In Crisis? - Neuroplasticity and the Digital AgeAjouté :
We are all part of a grand experiment for which none of us have provided our informed consent. Uh and that is uh the exposure to the internet, to social media, to our digital devices. We are continuously being shaped by a 24-hour news cycle, and all of this is taking a toll on our mental health. These forces are quite powerful. One of the things that the creators of these technologies have mastered is how to activate fear in humans. This kind of fear-based media that we are all exposed to is um really deleterious to our mental health. And so, these are the forces that are acting upon us. Neuroplasticity happens wittingly or unwittingly.
Most of the time neuroplasticity is happening unwittingly. Most of the time our brains are being shaped by forces around us over which we have no control, and of which we are typically only dimly aware, if at all. And the invitation in this work is to intentionally shape our brains by cultivating these simple skills of flourishing.
