Tulfo urges senators to return to work | Morning Matters

[00:00:00]Senator Irwin Tulfo is urging majority senators to resume session saying there are still many important measures that need to be tackled [music] in the chamber. In an interview with The Big Story, Tulfo pushed back against Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano's claim that the Senate is merely following the executive branch. He said the majority is simply upholding the Senate's rules and processes. [music] Tulfo also claimed that Cayetano and Senator Rodante Marcoleta appear to be protecting some [music] members with pending warrants.

[00:00:28]>> What he We have to fight uh Mrs. Ica for the the Senate. We have to fight for our rules, our uh uh Senate rules. That's what uh we're fighting for. And including in those rules are like we have to have uh sessions every day so that we'll be able to pass uh bills uh that will become law in the very near future. Unfortunately, if we don't have a quorum then we cannot uh conduct any uh uh sessions.

[00:01:09]Is he talking about now administration or the executive uh is he talking based on his experience when he was the speaker of the house uh when he was the speaker of uh uh the Congress in 2020 wherein uh President Rodrigo Duterte stepped in and said move aside, let Alan Velasco sit as the Senate President uh uh Speaker of the House? You will probably be saying that. Is he talking uh based on experience to become uh Speaker of the House now to the administration Duterte palitan siya kaya po siya ngayon tingin niya na nakikialam itong administration ngayon. We were protecting the institution. We were protecting the rules of the Senate.
