Conor’s film is a poignant reminder that our lives, much like cinema, are defined as much by what we discard as by what we choose to remember. It elegantly turns a technical necessity into a profound meditation on the selective nature of human experience.

'Cut' - A Short FilmAdded:
[music] >> I'm cut.
God, what a load of [ __ ] Well, I guess I've been cut.
I'm one of the scenes that didn't make it.
The stuff that gets thrown away.
The outtakes.
The mistakes.
I guess someone just decided we weren't good enough.
Maybe we were too boring.
And nobody wants to watch boring movies.
Well, maybe in France.
Most of us scenes never figure [music] out why we didn't make it.
How do they decide what parts to keep and what to throw away?
The average movie shoots 25 times more footage than they ever use.
That's a lot of work just gone to waste.
There's so many ways that things can go wrong.
Like, maybe the footage got destroyed by sea water.
[ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] Some scenes have too much exposition.
Or not enough.
Or it was just a bad take.
With the worst actor ever.
Unfortunately, you have one week to live.
[ __ ] Cut. Sure, sometimes you're a bad take.
[music] And you get left out.
Sometimes you're a good take.
That someone worked really hard to get.
There can be nothing wrong with you.
And you still don't make it.
No.
Guess that's the way it is.
But I think it's a little sad how much gets thrown away.
>> [music] >> I mean, just think how much of your own life gets cut out. [music] You remember the big moments.
What about the rest?
The little things, the mistakes, >> [music] >> the parts that nobody gives a flying [ __ ] about.
How does anyone decide what to keep and what to throw away?
>> [music] >> Most of life ends up as a deleted scene.
Aren't those moments worth something, [music] too?
Maybe it's wishful thinking.
But as I sit here, facing the end, I find myself dreaming of a place where all unwanted scenes can go.
[music] A place for all the moments that have ever been forgotten.
Every shot that lingered [music] a bit too long, every scene that wasn't quite right, and every day where nothing much happened. [music] >> [singing] >> It's a peaceful place where nothing is boring, and moments take as long as they need to.
>> [music and singing] >> I don't know.
>> [music and singing] >> Maybe it was France.
>> [music] [singing] [music] >> And cut.
