Menopause can disrupt gut health by altering the gut microbiome, which may weaken the gut barrier and increase inflammation, potentially affecting skin conditions through the gut-skin axis; researchers at King's College London are investigating whether probiotics can support this connection in menopausal women experiencing skin issues.

THE GUT-SKIN AXIS 🔬 #science #research #kcl本站添加:
Did you know menopause doesn't just affect your hormones? It can also change your gut health. As estrogen levels fluctuate, it can disrupt your gut microbiome. Think fewer beneficial bacteria, lower diversity, and changes that may weaken your gut barrier. These kind of changes are increasingly linked to inflammation. But did you know that they are also linked to skin issues?
This is part of what researchers call the gut-skin axis. The idea that your gut health can influence your skin. So, could prebiotics help? Well, emerging research shows that they may also help a range of skin concerns, including eczema, acne, rosacea, and more. But there's very limited evidence, and we know very little about the underlying mechanisms by which these changes come about. That's why researchers at King's College London have launched the Sippi study. We're investigating whether a well-characterized probiotic can help support the gut-skin connection in menopausal women, while also examining its effects on inflammation and overall well-being. We're looking for 30 women aged 40 to 60 who are living in and around the London area, who are experiencing acne, rosacea, dermatitis, or eczema, and aren't currently using hormonal treatments or prescribed medications for their skin. So, if you're interested in taking part, you can find more details below on how to sign up. And together, we can find out if supporting gut health could open new ways to support women's health. And that's what I call girl science.
