The video argues that British political elites' opposition to nationalism is hypocritical because they simultaneously celebrate other nations' nationalism (like Pakistan Independence Day) while condemning British nationalism, and because their anti-colonial stance—which relies on the principle of national self-determination—logically supports nationalism rather than opposing it.

This Is Why They Fear NationalismAdded:
So, I've been getting some messages lately. You know the ones. People asking, "Ada, how can you be on the right? You know, you're just brainwashed, aren't you? Pandering. Have you even looked in the mirror lately?"
And sometimes, honestly, it makes me laugh. Now, I am not one for labels.
Those who know me personally know that.
I actually find them very restrictive.
But in any case, when I look at the people on the other side, and I see what they believe in, and I hear some things that they say, these people who are supposedly the enlightened I just think to myself, "Well, how can a person not be on the right?" I saw a clip of Wes Streeting recently. For those of you outside the UK, Wes Streeting is a big deal in the Labour Party, likely a future leader. And he says he is in a fight of his life against nationalism, and he feels like he's losing. Let's have a look. I left the government because we are in the fight of our lives against nationalism.
And it is a fight that we are currently losing. I'm sitting here thinking, "Why?
Why is a man who wants to lead this nation so terrified of the very thing that makes it a nation? Why is nationalism treated like a dirty word by the people who want to run the country?"
We need to talk about this because there is a massive double standard here that no one is calling out. So, let's first get back to basics. Merriam-Webster defines nationalism as an ideology that elevates one nation or nationality above all others and places primary emphasis on the promotion of its culture and interest. You see, some people hear the word elevate, and they automatically think hate. They think that if you elevate Britain, then that must mean that you must hate everyone else. But that is such a shallow, primary school way of looking at the world. Think about your own family. I love my family. I put them first. I elevate my family above your family. Does that mean I hate your kids? Does it mean know your family to fail? Of course not. It just means my responsibility, my heart, my loyalty belong to mine first. And crucially, you don't think less of me for that. You actually would think less of me if I didn't put my family first. This isn't hard. It's actually the most natural human instinct there is. But for some reason, it only becomes hard and dangerous and complicated when we apply it to white Western English-speaking nations. Why is that? Suddenly putting your own family first is a threat to democracy. And here is the thing that really gets me. We are told that British nationalism is scary, but we are encouraged to celebrate everyone else's nationalism, sometimes even right here on our own soil. What country is in this video?
>> [music] >> No, it's not Pakistan. That is Wilmslow Road in Manchester, where people celebrate Pakistan Independence Day.
I heard about a school recently having a Pakistan day. Look, I actually have no problem or not a lot of problem with people being proud of where they come from. But think about the logic. We are literally teaching children that it's beautiful and diverse to celebrate the nationalism of a foreign country, but if you brought an English flag to that same school and called it England Day, you'd have a safeguarding meeting scheduled before long. What are we doing here?
We're telling a whole generation of people that they are the only ones on Earth not allowed to have a home that they can put first? We're telling them that their culture is just a supernational waiting room for everyone else's interests. And another thing, do you know that the entire moral case for anti-colonialism, the argument the progressive left treats as its most sacred inheritance depends completely on nationalism actually being a good thing.
Because the reason colonialism was wrong in their own telling is that Britain had no right to govern India. That India belonged to the Indians. That Kenya belonged to the Kenyans. That people have a natural right to self-determination in their own land.
That is the argument and it is a nationalist argument. You cannot say that colonialism was wrong because it denied peoples their own national self-determination and then turn around and say nationalism is a dangerous ideology. No. You see, the left built its own most cherished political position on the very principle it now wants to tell you is dangerous. They just only apply in one direction. Every other people on Earth get to invoke it, the British don't. Which brings us back to West Streeting and his fight. He says he's fighting nationalism and then in the next breath he will talk about joining the EU.
Do you see the connection here? By the way, nationalism is also defined as the support for the political independence or self-determination of a nation.
That's essentially what Brexit was. It wasn't about hate, it was about the simple radical idea that the people living here should be the ones making the rules here. David Cameron was advised to give a referendum, but the experts thought that they had it in the bag. They told us that we'd be poorer.
They told us that the sky would fall in.
But the people knew what they wanted.
They realized that the power of self-determination is priceless. You cannot put a price tag on being a sovereign nation. And this is why West Streeting's position is so contradictory. The EU is not just a trade agreement. It is specifically structurally a project that requires member states to transfer their sovereignty upwards. That is the mechanism. It's not a side effect. It's the design of it. So, when he says that he's fighting nationalism and he wants to rejoin the EU, for example, he's not holding two separate opinions. He's holding one opinion that Britain should not govern itself. He might call it progress. A lot of people might call it a betrayal of the democratic vote. You can't claim to love a nation while you're actively trying to dissolve it of its independence. That's if these people even love this nation at all. Anyway, so when people ask me how I can be on the right or if I've looked in the mirror lately. Yeah, I've looked. And what I see is someone who is not afraid to say that Britain should come first. As a black woman, which apparently makes it worse to say this. What I see in the mirror is someone who isn't afraid to say this country is worth defending. Who isn't afraid to say out loud in public with her name attached to it. I see someone who isn't afraid to push back when people try to make you feel small for loving this nation. I see someone who isn't afraid to say that Britain is good, that its history is worth understanding rather than just tearing it apart. This culture is worth protecting. Its people deserve a government that actually puts them first. I see someone who isn't afraid to fight for that even when it's unfashionable, even when the people call you names. Who cares? That is what I see when I look in the mirror and no one can change that. Not the so-called progressives, not anyone else. I'll leave it there. I want to know your thoughts. Is nationalism really the enemy? That Western things it is. Or is it just a word for looking after your own? And is that a problem? Is that a bad thing? Let me know in the comments.
