Breaking news, a former political chair of the Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People Political Action Committee has been indicted and charged with embezzlement. Yeah, Cassandra Shayna Stokes is charged with two counts of embezzlement and one count of obtaining property by false pretenses.
That's according to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. In a release, the SBI says that she's accused of embezzling more than $74,000.
The Durham County District Attorney's Office called for an investigation focusing on the potential mishandling of PAC funds and financial activities that took place during 2023 and 2024.
