Economic development projects can be cancelled when buyers withdraw due to changed business models, even after significant site preparation work has been completed; communities must remain flexible and continue marketing properties to potential buyers to achieve growth and development goals.

Buyer pulls out of Mercer County warehouse project本站添加:
A major warehouse development deal in Mercer County has fallen through. First News reporter Gabriella Winans has more.
It's always disappointing when you think you're going to have something like that come through. Mercer County commissioners say plans for the sorting facility located off Interstate 80 and Route 19 will no longer be moving forward. This comes after the buyer, which has yet to be named, pulled out of the project.
>> There's been mixed feelings, you know, there's there's some folks that don't want to see anything, you know, developed upon. Um, there's other folks that are disappointed and you know, I I fall into that frame of mind, you know, I'd I'd really like to see the property, you know, put to good use. It's it's, you know, 200 acres of open land next to an interstate and an interchange. It's it's ideal place to have growth and development.
>> told commissioners their business model changed leading to them leaving the project. The proposed development had been in the works for almost 2 years.
The 930,000 square foot sorting facility would have made it the largest employer in Mercer County. Commissioner Bill Finley says much of the site prep work has already been done, including the construction of a sewage treatment facility. We want, you know, growth and development that's going to be, you know, good neighbors to everybody around and, you know, help create jobs and pay taxes. That's what we're looking for is to to help the community grow. Finley says they are currently marketing the 200 acre site, which still sits vacant, to potential new buyers and are hoping to be able to put it to use soon. We've had multiple calls of folks interested from developers to private businesses and even a government agency was interested in in a portion of the property. So, there's lots of options available and we're pushing very hard to get something established there. In Mercer County, Gabriella Winans, WKBN 27 First News.
