Despite government promises following the Anguan incident, security measures like CCTV cameras have not been implemented in Plateau State, and attacks continue to occur, with approximately 80% of attacks attributed to Fulani herdsmen, raising questions about government accountability and the effectiveness of security interventions.

Plateau: Fingers Have Been Pointed At Fulanis For Over 80% Of The Attacks - Youth LeaderAdded:
[music] Welcome back. Let's talk about uh the security of our country, but this time we're focused on Plateau State. You remember the Anguan incident that led to the loss of life and the president had to do what in my view considered a flyby visit but his condolence visit by the president and promises were made uh during that visit. One of the promises made was to the effect that and this is coming from the president saying he won't allow it to happen again but unfortunately it has happened maybe three or more times since he visited plateau state on the other hand the president also through his minister of communication and digital economy had also made promises about installing CCTV cameras and we don't know what the status of that is from the questions some of us I've asked we haven't seen those CCTVs yet what are the issues but most recently there was another incident in just or in plateau state where seven persons were killed uh just I think a few days ago and that's where we want to dig deep and find out what exactly is the status of the status of things in that particular area [snorts] Mr. Samson Chioma is the Anguan Rukuba youth leader from just north local government area of plateau state Mr. Roma good morning and welcome to the program.
>> Uh I doubt if I can hear you clearly.
>> Okay. Good morning.
>> All right. Good morning. Welcome to the program.
>> So my pleasure.
>> I think the natural place I would like to start. I have a lot of questions and I'm sure my colleagues have questions >> but let's talk about perhaps a recent incident but for me more importantly is to get an update of what has happened since that visit by the president.
>> Okay. I think after the attack there are numerous promises after the visitation of the president after he left I think we have not uh uh presently we have not gotten anything from the promises but uh from the office of the governor we have started having uh a street light and then then the process of the camera has been starting but right now on ground the only thing we have in respect to security at Angoruba is uh is uh the issue of uh street light >> let me hear I want to be sure I heard it clearly have they started installing the CCTV cameras is that what you're saying >> we don't have anything related to CCTV camera presently now the only thing we have after the attack is only this uh street light is from the governor.
>> Okay. I I wanted to be sure I heard you quite clearly. So talk to us about um what effort is being made for the people that were affected by that particular incident. It's an incident I I hate to remember. Uh because plateau the plateau has been you know ground zero when it comes to these things. What effort has been made? The president also made statement. I'm sure the governor may have made promises as well as to how to rehab rehabilitate would not be the right word. Maybe support the families of those who are affected by this incident. What do you know about that as well? I'm just trying to be generic first and we'll pick double down on specific issues to clarify one issue in respect to the leadership. Um I'm being born and brought up at Angoro. started my leadership career from Angorba but presently I rise to the position of uh not only Angora but I the leader of the northern plate presently now and then uh from the promises in respect to after the attack I think uh what we have from the government I think uh to be specific the governor of plat state have tried his possible best after the attack to to sponsor the burial processes after the burial processes and then he have sent and I talking to the disease families to be specific and then the injuries people that sustain injury he have cleared their depths in the hospital so far I think that is the only thing we we have received >> so I'd like you to give give us clarity as to this latest round of attack in Barin Ladi local government area. Uh from where you stand or sit as the case may be, what information are you getting about what actually happened? Uh based on reports that these people who were attacked were observing a social event in their vicinity.
>> I think not only Baradi, the attacks are numerous. I think the most recent one is Biladia and even uh the boundary of Mangu and just east. Uh that is uh the Gum Jang village village to be specific the forum district that is the attack on Sunday that were buried eight mostly women and children.
I think after the attack of Angula we have not even on the issue of security the killing have not stopped the attack keep on going every now and then >> you know >> there is no effort to stop that that is the wor some moment and the situation we found ourself now >> you know sometimes Mr. It is said that um these reports are not adequately captured that there must have been a cause before you have an effect.
Uh so is is there a background to this latest round of attacks that have come after Anguan Rukuba? Is it any form of reprisal? Was there any dispute between cattle herders and you know the uh indigens? So let us know if there was any background to this latest round of attacks.
>> I think the attack of Angora we have there is no sign of any fight.
There is no clash nothing nothing. I think the rumor we started having rumor from rumor we started having from uh individual internet saying that after saying that to be specific there are some content creators from the north started posting videos related to our areas that after the they fasting they will they will attack and then for that we have even informed the security uh personnel in respect to all the videos the videos are online there is nothing like clash nothing like uh uh any conflict between the people on the community or any religious conflict the attack just happened like that >> so do you have any ideas to the identity or identities of those who have perpetrated this latest round of attacks.
Honestly speaking, I think the attack happened around it was a very dark situation around 7:30 before 8 and then we are not able to identify physically uh who are the perpetrators because of the dark moment.
>> All right. So >> that is correct. I I I wonder what it is like having to endure these attacks living in uncertainty at times and you know looking at the map of the local government in Platau state you see just north where you are and Guaruba and the latest attack on Sunday said between Barin Ladi and Mongu uh but you see that these attacks are almost around the same circumference in that sense but also the MO uh the attack in Anguan Rukuba was on a Sunday. The latest attack, whether you call it in Barakin Ladi or cuz there's, you know, different reports, but it's just right in the middle, was also on a Sunday.
What do you make of this?
I think I think uh based on my own thinking we don't have to be biased in our analysis the attack is being delivered mostly Christian environment and then it's been targeted at least on the Christians because if you if you if you just check basically how these people attack most of the Christian environ government and it's a deliberate attack on our people and then the unfortunate issue here is that mostly most of the village I'm going to you see related videos before the attack from the fan environment environment and then most of the attacks again on the villages you see fingers are being pointed to the fanis every village you see fingers are being pointed to fanis and then we are calling on the federal government to put in more effort to check the excesses of such people. Every attack I think almost 80% you discover in our region mostly the northern plateau and even the plateau at large you discover that 80% fingers are being pointed at the the the fan area. I think the government should focus why is it almost 70 to 80% accusation going to a single particular tribe. I think the government should be should make more effort in checking the excesses of such people in order to bring justice to what is going on.
>> All right. Uh Samuroma we understand you have a very tight schedule so we we need to release you to go about your day. Uh Samuruma is the Anguan Rukuba youth leader from just north local government area of Plato state. We thank you. We appreciate [music] >> [music]
