Can invasive plants be pretty?

[00:00:09]How did you not know that? I see this happen online each year. Someone innocently shares a flower they like and then they're flooded with comments calling out their ignorance.

[00:00:20]And just like that, a moment of wonder and appreciation turns into embarrassment and alienation. This is Dame's rocket. It was brought here from Europe precisely because it's pretty.

[00:00:33]The problem is it produces thousands of seeds, spreads aggressively into our natural areas, and can outcompete native plants. Once you know the fuller story of a plant like Dame's rocket, it does change how you see it. But yeah, objectively I think this the flowers are pretty.

[00:00:51]To me, the full expression of its beauty is found among its native flora in Europe. And here we can respect our ecosystem's biodiversity by removing it.
