“Jaldi Jaldi Bhago”: Suvendu Adhikari’s Warning To Alleged Bangladeshi Infiltrators Sparks RowAdded:
West Bengal Chief Minister Suendu Adikari has triggered a major political and administrative debate after calling for the fast deportation of alleged illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators from the state. Speaking after a high-level administrative meeting in Kalyani on Tuesday, Adiari claimed that a large number of suspected Bangladeshi nationals had gathered at the Hakimur checkpoint in north 24 Paranas and were willing to return to Bangladesh. That is when Adikari delivered a controversial warning. The chief minister also said the state did not want to spend public money housing alleged infiltrators in prisons or detention facilities. Adiari accused previous governments of ignoring illegal immigration for what he called vote bank politics.
>> Existing foreign social media.
Yes.
The remarks come amid the roll out of the Bengal government's detect, delete and deport policy. Under the plan, districts across the state have been instructed to establish special holding centers for what officials describe as apprehended foreigners and released foreign prisoners until deportation procedures are completed.
>> Good evening everybody.
First of all, I would like to convey my best wishes on behalf of West Bengal state government to BSFDG and his team.
The centers are meant to temporarily house foreign nationals detained for alleged illegal entry or lack of valid documentation while verification and legal formalities continue. Maldda has become the first district in West Bengal to operationalize such a facility. The holding center set up at Chandan Park in English Bazar is currently housing nine suspected Bangladeshi nationals including women and minors. Officials say the individuals were brought there from the Pandoa area of Gazul and a heavy security arrangements. Suendu Adikari has also indicated a tougher border security approach going forward.
In earlier remarks made during a meeting with senior border security officials, the chief minister had said that individuals outside the scope of the citizenship amendment act would be treated as infiltrators. According to him, such detainees would be arrested by state police and directly handed over to the BSF for deportation instead of being rooted through prolonged legal procedures. The developments come on the same day union home minister Amit Sha announced the formation of a high level committee to examine demographic changes in the country caused by what he termed illegal immigration and other unnatural causes.
In a post on X, Sha said that unnatural demographic change due to infiltration and other reasons poses a very significant challenge to the present and future of any nation. The Bengal government's latest crackdown is likely to intensify the already heated political battle over illegal immigration, border security, and citizenship ahead of upcoming elections.
