This video demonstrates how meteorologists use computer models to predict weather patterns, showing that increased atmospheric humidity leads to heavier rainfall, with weather systems moving northward and changing intensity over time. The forecast illustrates how rain can be scattered or concentrated, with varying intensity throughout different days, and how weather patterns can be tracked and predicted for several days in advance.

WAVY Weather Evening Update | May 24, 2026Added:
I look at what's going on with our future track computer model. This front is going to be lifting northward during the overnight hours. Well, it was a warm day in northeast North Carolina and the humidity is going to be increasing as well. Lots more water in the atmosphere.
With more water in the atmosphere, some of these yellow and orange areas that you see could really produce some heavy rainfall in the upcoming days, the next couple of days. Here's what's going on at 8:00 in the evening. There is indeed some rainfall in the eastern North Carolina. It's likely to lift northward into Virginia and then fall apart a bit.
That's where things are by 11:00 at night. During the overnight hours, we'll see a few scattered showers. But once we hit the afternoon tomorrow, that's when we're likely to see some rain. And again, it could be quite heavy. Here's where things are at 9:00, 10:00, or actually 11:00 in the morning.
Any parades going on for Memorial Day?
Again, you'll really have to watch out for the possibility of that, but it looks like it'll be after the noon hour when it really hits the area. There's where things are at the noon hour. On we go into 1:00, still some heavy rainfall.
Most of that has moved off by 3:00, but it's replaced by more scattered showers and again, maybe a rumble or two of thunder. It improves a little bit for the Hampton Roads area coming up by 7:00 in the evening. That's where things are at 7:00. We move on from there, still some rainfall overnight as we are on Monday evening at 10:00. Of course, Monday is Memorial Day.
Overnight, still some scattered rain. It starts to perk back up again Tuesday morning and some of this again could be really, really quite heavy throughout the area. There's where things are by 10:00 in the morning on Tuesday. Pockets of heavy rainfall and lighter rainfall.
And then it lets up a little bit at the very end of the day on Tuesday and then lightens up entirely for the day on Wednesday, almost entirely. So see a scattered shower to start the day.
There's where things are. Let's go to 89. I'm going to write 86, 87 for a high temperature during the day on Wednesday.
I think by the end of the day we could still see some more showers and thunderstorms coming up during the day on Wednesday. So, here's Here are the next 7 days showing you what's going on with that. What we're looking at is a 30% chance of rain in the morning.
Morning probably fine. Afternoon, not so fine. We could see pockets of heavy rain, lightning, and thunder, and some heavy downpours are possible out of this coming up on Monday and during the day on Tuesday. Really, Tuesday is likely to be some of the heaviest rain that we see. Wednesday, just an outside chance of rain in the morning. I think later in the day we'll likely see some showers and thunderstorms again. Not much of a chance of rain on Thursday or Friday.
Then we start to see some rain again once we hit Saturday, Saturday night, and into next Sunday morning. Again, pockets of heavy rainfall Monday afternoon and then again on during the day on Tuesday.
