This critique provides a vital reality check, exposing how easily cinematic trickery can masquerade as engineering breakthroughs. It is a necessary defense of physical truth in an era of increasingly deceptive robotic marketing.

I Want Unitree’s Mech To Be Real, But…本站添加:
All right, Unitree just unveiled a mech.
And as somebody building a DIY mech project myself, I genuinely want this to be real.
But there are a few things about the footage that just feels off.
So, let's take a look.
One problem right away is that there's no hard shadows in the footage.
It's all just dirty shadows directly under. Now, that's probably because of a lot of studio lighting, but hopefully it's not AI-generated.
Okay, he's standing with it giving it a fist bump. All right, that's kind of neat. And now he's climbing it. Um Now, you can see the robot tilting a little bit, but because when you're climbing on something as tall like that, you're going to actually have your body weight pulling down on the robot and make it fall over on top of yourself.
So, the robot really should be shifting its weight to the opposite side where the pilot's climbing in order to compensate for the pilot's weight.
Now, the thing is that this could just be a static uh statue or whatever and he's just climbing on it for safety reasons. Now, this is not the first time that China's actually done uh giant robots attached to giant metal uh frameworks cuz you can see this is Monkey King. They built it supposedly to fight Megabots. It's supposed to be able to walk around and stuff, but the only footage that they have of it is when it's welded to this big metal steel uh frame here.
So, let's uh continue to see how it goes.
All right, he's climbing in the mech.
It's a bit of a tight squeeze.
You know, that's only natural.
Now, there's all that um tight squeeze and there's no hatch on it for probably safety reasons because this is essentially a giant roll cage. And if you put like a hatch with a hinges on it or something, that would be a weak point where it could break and hurt the pilot. So, they have put a little bit of actual thought into the design for pilot safety.
All right, he's now comfy in there.
And now it's a different shot. You can't see the operator's face, and he's all dressed up in a neat little costume, and notice when he's walking, the the pilot is jiggling around.
That's because, well, that's probably a lightweight mannequin, not an actual person. Actual people don't jiggle around that much.
And that's probably for safety reasons.
Because if that thing falls down, you know, you wouldn't want someone face-planting on camera.
Now, also a big concern is how buttery smooth this whole motion camera motion is. Now, this is probably just like an electrical uh motion system to stabilize the camera shots, but this sort of buttery smooth motion is also a hallmark of AI-generated video. If you really want to say that your mech is real, you don't want to be doing all this buttery motion smooth stuff and doing all these jump cuts where you switch to a mannequin from a actual person. That really doesn't help with your credibility. You also really don't want to have your pilot jiggling around that much while the mech is walking. So, there we go.
Punching day.
Cinder block wall. Um again, the lighting and the colors really have an artificial quality to them.
It really kind of gives the vibes of AI-generated video, but it probably isn't. They're just probably making everything fancy to look nice, and you know, make some buttery smooth high-res video to make investors go, "Ooh, look at that."
And now it's walking on four legs again.
There's nobody actually inside of it.
And you can actually there is some [snorts] actual nice hard shadows there. So, it's making it less likely to be AI generated video. But, with how clean everything looks it's really kind of looks like a set. But, again you've got nobody actually inside of it. So, you don't know if you can actually hold the weight.
Because when it comes to giant robots, the mechanical disadvantage and the leverage on the limbs are insane.
And there he is climbing it while it's on four legs and um this time you're actually the only time you see the feet when someone's actually climbing on it is you know, when it's actually on four legs.
So, that really gives me the vibes that there's probably some balance issues and this thing is off when he's trying to climb into it.
So, I mean again when he's climbing into it when it's on two legs, you don't see the feet at all.
They're cleverly um out of shot.
So, again climbing into it you don't see the feet right here when it's on two legs.
But, when it's on four legs Okay, now the thing is I would love for this thing to be an actual real mech you can ride on. I mean, this sort of thing is why I've started my YouTube channel.
I want mechs to be real. However, I have encountered other companies before uh like a Suidobashi Heavy Industries Kuratas here. They've been saying for years, "Oh, we've got a mech. It's real and we're selling it. It's so awesome."
But, you can see how it has the wheels in the back right here.
When they fought MegaBots they had to remove the entire back half and strapped like a tractor to it. So, and again, also there's Monkey King saying, "We got a giant robot. It's walking fighting megabots."
But, it was strapped to a big metal grid. I wish that companies would actually make their robots do what they say they do, but unfortunately, everything seems to be more about clicks than everything.
Whether this is real or not, you know, that's up to you. I'm just putting in my two cents.
So, uh yeah.
If you do enjoy my content or you want to leave a comment saying I'm a big doody head and I should trust the CCP, go ahead. Leave a uh comment down below. Have a good day.
