Political leaders must address real urban safety challenges rather than using events like the World Cup as opportunities for virtue signaling; ignoring societal problems such as homelessness, drug addiction, and mental health crises can lead to increased violent crime in urban areas.

Democrats call Seattle a 'world class city' after horrific week of violent crimeAdded:
It's not just your imagination. There has been a flurry of violent, unprovoked attacks in the downtown core that's going to be flooded with World Cup fans in a matter of weeks. Just a couple uh of the stories that you've probably seen that we've talked about on this show.
There is, of course, that individual who allegedly uh pulled a 15-year-old girl into the woods where he raped her. It was a homeless guy. Uh there was an unprovoked attack with a hammer in downtown Seattle where a young man was beaten over the head at random completely unprovoked. He's clinging for life right now at Harborview Medical Center. There was also of course that video that was shown around the world of the elderly man in right in downtown Seattle. Uh and two young black men for no reason in the world beat him. Uh and he suffered serious serious injuries.
There was a runner along the waterfront, which again, highdensity tourist area who was attacked at random uh in Little Saigon. Not a surprise considering they've pushed a lot of the drug dealers and users there. Uh a man robbed a business at Knife Point. And those are just a few of the headlines that have come out in the last few weeks. So, uh of course, they're more than just headlines. And I think that that's always important for us to acknowledge that these crimes are more than a political talking point. Although it is really important that we discuss the state of things in Seattle, not just ahead of the World Cup, but always. Uh, but there are real people at the center of these crimes as well. And their families are suffering. And they're suffering even more so given the fact that you have a political leadership that just doesn't seem to care very much. That seems to be doing all these virtue signaling things that are just making the community less less safe, making people less safe, uh, and making it more likely that we're going to see these crimes continue. So, uh, one of these, uh, attacks that we haven't talked about individually on the show yet, this is the headline from KOMO News. Unprovoked attack in downtown Seattle leaves man with critical head trauma. And I'll tell you that that headline doesn't even come close to summing up the horrendous nature of this attack. There was a young man named George Miller who was, and look, he's um, uh, from our understanding dealing with some substance abuse issues, but he wasn't bothering anyone. He was sitting in in uh I think it was on the steps of a a business hotel after hours and a man came up to him from behind with a hammer and beat him over the head repeatedly.
He's at Harborview Medical Center. We were contacted by George's mother. Her name is Lisa. She lives up in Arlington.
Uh and she got that call in the middle of the night that no mother ever wants to get.
>> He was walking down Madison. I was told that he appeared to be hunting rather than it was a target. Um he saw my son um leaned over, cross the street, took a hammer out of the back of his backpack and hit him in the back of the head and then just repeatedly hit him over and over and over and walked away.
>> She wants people to know that like look, Seattle is not safe right now. I just want people out there um to be careful, be aware of their surroundings when they're walking around. Um that that's another reason I would want the suspect's photo to be um given out to the public so that they could watch out for this person. Um yeah, I want justice and I want safety for others. And if he can take a hammer to the back of the head of George just sitting there minding his own business doing nothing, he can take a hammer to the back of the head of a World Cup fan. And maybe the city just maybe the city needs it to be a World Cup fan in order to actually care about the reality that we have mentally ill, drugaddicted predators roaming the streets looking for victims.
And then you've got our ass hat governor yesterday having a press conference about the World Cup and with all these headlines, all this stuff going on, says this, >> you don't get to host a World Cup match, series of matches, unless you're a world class city. Full stop. That competition is intense. They don't just hand these things out to anybody. You've got to have an exceptional city, exceptional partners, exceptional team, exceptional infrastructure, exceptional transportation system, all of that. Um, and more.
>> We're a world class city. Everything about our city is exceptional.
I mean, the tonedeaf. And I'm not saying, and I I've been clear, I don't think that it's too dangerous in Seattle to host the World Cup, but let's not pretend that things are going well for this city. I mean, you know, the World Cup is hosted at a lot of different places on the planet that have more profound societal issues than we have here, but Seattle hasn't been a worldclass city for 10 years. And if you're going to call yourself a world-class city and pretend to be a world-class city, then you should want to deal with the third world problems that are plaguing our streets like the homeless crisis, the drug crisis, the random crime crisis, the mental health crisis. Not just ignore it or push it away to Chinatown until the the the world's eyes are off the city. I mean, to say that, how tonedeaf can you be?
