[00:00:02]Hey, afternoon folks. Brian here. It's uh Sunday, May 17, 2026. Time for the weekend vegetable status update.

[00:00:22]So, peas are going to be plentiful.

[00:00:26]Maybe another week they'll be ready for picking.

[00:00:30]Even a couple of days for some of them.

[00:00:32]Looking good.

[00:00:41]So, the summer time, this bed is going to be primarily uh chili peppers.

[00:00:47]Leaving kale in here right now. Swiss short.

[00:01:02]These are little cayenne and some other ones I'm uh doing by seed myself.

[00:01:33]Potatoes coming along nicely. No disease, no nothing.

[00:01:55]I had my number wrong last time I spoke.

[00:01:57]166 potato plants.

[00:02:00]So, that'll give me a year supply. I can still do a a second planting at the end of summer for a fall harvest.

[00:02:35]So, I found the rodent that's been eating all my vegetables. I'll uh show you a picture of his dead carcass at the end of this video.

[00:02:53]So, he ate all my beets all in here. So, I just replanted with some carrots.

[00:03:02]He was trying to get in uh yesterday, the day after I put a whole bunch of traps out, and he met his demise.

[00:03:14]So, I had potatoes in here last year. I obviously did not harvest them all because once two are spreading out. That's fine.

[00:03:27]Bunch of carrots planted back there.

[00:03:31]Have to keep the soil moist for them to germinate.

[00:03:39]And they're starting to come out.

[00:03:46]Apricot tree.

[00:03:51]Not as many as last year, but all right.

[00:04:36]Yeah, these will keep on growing at least another 3 ft up.

[00:04:57]And I still have some more space. I'll figure out what I'm going to put in here a little bit later.

[00:05:05]We've actually gotten to a cold spell last night or night before was 3° C.

[00:05:10]This morning about 5.

[00:05:13]So these are Asian long beans. I had to cover I have to cover up a lot of my vegetables at night with frost cloth.

[00:05:27]I'm losing one.

[00:05:49]A So I use fresh peanut butter as bait and we ate it all up.

[00:06:19]If you use a chunk of cheese, they can quickly pick it up before the trap snaps and take it away. But peanut butter is sticky, so they're forced to stay there.

[00:06:30]Actually, this trap's been tripped.

[00:06:51]Plenty of strawberries coming out now.

[00:07:07]That barrage and carrots. Couple rows of carrots in here.

[00:08:04]and potatoes. Let's see.

[00:08:17]Every single potato is coming up.

[00:08:36]So, I have a rodent that's gotten in eating my vegetables. Settled some traps last night.

[00:08:43]Wow, look at this baby I got last night.

[00:08:51]Gee, it's too bad, huh?

[00:09:10]That's a big one.

[00:09:25]What a difference in my wild raspberry bushes since a week ago. E Second year I'm using these towers.

[00:10:11]They're doing pretty good.

[00:10:28]Now that rat was eating all my terroatops.

[00:10:38]Actually, it was eating the carrot itself.

[00:10:47]So, I'm hoping it's just the one ash rodent.

[00:11:03]So, he had a good half dozen carrots.

[00:11:26]Oh, blueberries getting bigger.

[00:11:41]Yeah. So, for the next few nights, I got to wrap a frost cloth around cold sensitive plants like my tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers.

[00:12:00]He was even eating some of my strawberries. Anyway, I just finished putting bird netting over cuz the birds get in here. So, So everything on the bottom was turning dead. So I don't think I was getting enough deep water.

[00:13:20]Oh, I didn't cut the net.

[00:13:56]and a couple of the bush cucumber plants.

[00:14:00]And still not a single bee.

[00:14:17]Okay, let's move along.

[00:14:35]I also get mice in here. So, if the mice uh I found some dead mice in my water, they can't swim.

[00:14:45]So, I put some water traps out.

[00:15:28]And all potatoes are coming out.

[00:15:35]These are indeterminant which means they'll grow at different levels and we don't need the energy of the plant going to flowers.

[00:15:45]Flowers just simply means that the uh spudge have started the tubers.

[00:15:53]So I healed these up once. I can heal them up a little bit more.

[00:16:03]So I have lots of potatoes for myself.

[00:16:24]usually do the greenhouse last, but since we're here pretty much laid in everything grow except for my celeries.

[00:16:56]And I already got some uh zucchini and cucumber planted in there somewhere.

[00:17:04]Got to get these chili pepper plants out.

[00:17:21]We had a brief rain a few days ago. Like light to moderate nothing in about 30 40 minutes.

[00:17:29]Filled everything up.

[00:17:34]These are actually low enough. I just take my buckets and scoop them up. I don't really need to have this uh More potatoes. Very healthy.

[00:17:55]It's very warm in here actually. Pretty soon, uh, every year this time I got to take off my ridge cap. I got a gap in here while they heat the vent out.

[00:18:09]to my potato potato tomato plants I started by uh seed in January February cherry tomatoes. So this thing is just over three feet tall already producing plum tomato.

[00:18:28]I haven't even have time to check and carrots and beets.

[00:18:48]So, beets do not like the summer heat.

[00:18:52]So, they're going to slow down a little bit.

[00:18:55]It's more cool weather. That's already uh towards the end of the summer, I'll just reed a whole area, get caught up, and I'll have lots of beets in the fall.

[00:19:13]And I got more work to do on my peach tree.

[00:19:16]So again, the tiny little branch is not going to hold the weight of all these peaches. So I got to cut them all off.

[00:19:28]That'll send more energy to the the tree as a whole.

[00:19:37]Got to cut all those ones off.

[00:19:45]Work, work, work.

[00:19:51]Same thing with the apple tree.

[00:19:56]Branch's too small. Can't take the weight of these apples. So, I got to get rid of them.

[00:20:28]I don't even have the wasps.

[00:20:31]I normally got a lot of wasps, but uh Little bit concerning. No bees.

[00:20:50]Maybe uh less than onetenth of the amount of bees I usually have.

[00:20:56]No wasps. I don't care about the wasps.

[00:21:15]One rolly bumblebee.

[00:21:31]Doesn't want me around.
