[00:00:00]Here's a helmet rule every parent should know before buying their child a helmet, especially if they're riding bikes, e- scooters, whatever it might be. I'm a neurologist. I see head injuries, concussions all the time. And these are mistakes that parents make. The rule of twos is pretty simple. When you're buying a helmet, you have to make sure, number one, that the helmet sets 2 in above the eyebrows. It can't be further back because that means it's not doing appropriate head protection. The second thing is two fingers should form a V where the the straps go over here. If it's not right there around the ear, like a V, then it's not appropriately fitted. Lastly, the chin strap. You can only fit two fingers underneath the chin strap. If you can fit more than that, that means it's too loose and your child isn't getting adequately protected from concussion or head injury. A simple way to look at this is that if your child's helmet is shaking when they shake their head, that means it's not adequately protecting their head. Properly fitted helmet is one of the things that we have in our toolbox to help prevent long-term brain injury and concussions. Injuries, concussions can really affect memory, sleep, school performance. So check for the rule of twos next
